Salesmen are morons.

Go to Desert Nissan in Las Vegas to check out their used car lot and to see prices of the 2002 Max/Alt.

As my girlfriend and I exit my car, a spanish gentlman walks up, introduces himself as "Lodamer?" (spelling).

I tell him I was checking to see if they had any used 2002 Maximas or Altimas in their lot. I also mentioned that another dealership had advertised a 2002 Maxima AND a 2002 Altima SE (the v6) for $19.8K.

Curious that he was, he questioned the pricing of the Maxima and insisted the 2002 Altima was a 4 cylinder. Digging deeper, he also proclaimed the Maxima had to be a 2001 GXE and NOT a 2002...and if it happened to be, it could only be a GLE or SE.

Here's where it gets good:
I tell him the vehicle had the "same retarded clear taillamps" as the cars on the lot and that it was most likely a GXE. He tells me there's no GXE for 2002 ---

me: "So, you're saying there's no 2002 GXE?"
salesman: "Nope. The car you saw must have been a 2002 GLE or a 2001 GXE."
me: ".laughing. You sure? No 2002 GXEs?"
salesman: "None."
me: ".walking away. alright, thanks."

i start walking away and he starts talking again about how he can sell me a '98 Maxima for $20K... very condescending. He begins speaking about the 2002 again.

me: "Alright, would you like me to speak to your manager about the 2002 GXE? Do you really want me to prove you wrong?"

from here, he's just being a ******* and i leave to the showroom. I ask one of the employees of a Maxima pamphlet. I have a short conversation with the guy about the other salesman and his ignorance. I find out this guy has been there for some time. Wow.

I get the pamphlet and go back out to find this idiot and set him straight. Apparantely, he ran off and hid. I wonder how many people this moron has lied to?

So, for those in Vegas, AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP!

They are salesmen, not car guys. Their last job was probably selling insurance or shoes.

My favorite salesman of all time was the guy at Pinnacle Nissan is Scottsdale that kept insisting that the Spec V was a V-6 even after we popped the hood. He also claimed that the new 4 cylinder 2002 Altima was faster than the 2K-2K1 Maxima.

Thats the car business my friend! I totally agree with asu.. Car salesman are just there to make the $$$. They would tell you just about anything to sell you something. You got to remember that most people already know what the car has and what they should pay for. In other words, avoid the salesman and see a Fleet or Internet manager for a no haggle deal.

Pacific Nissan in Pacific Beach, San Diego. One of the dealers was determined to make my friend believe that invoice was not what the dealer pays for the car.

He was set on MSRP is what the dealer pays...

Kinda... stupid if you ask me

I agree. I bought my car thru an internet service which deals directly with the internet manager of the dealership. It was a pretty good experience with none of the traditional BS that comes with the car buying experience. He didn't try to sell me stuff that I didn't want or anything. He was like "We don't mess around with you internet savy people. You know what you want and you have all the info available to you. You probably know more about Nissan and their cars that anybody else in this showroom."

I think salespeople are all pretty much the same, no matter which dealership you go to, all over this country. Once in awhile you get one who has some knowledge, and isn't just a total jacka$$. I agree with doing your research, and then just going straight to the fleet manager or sales manager to make a deal.

My buddy and I were at the dealer and the guy just kept hesitating each time he tried to tell us somethign specific about each generation or year. It was pretty basic stuff, but you could tell he didn't know exactly what he was talking about.

A lot of dealers just weren't buying any GXE's because they'd be a very hard sell next to a loaded Altima. It wouldn't be too far fetched to think that the salesman had never seen one, so he assumed they did not make them. Stupid assumption to make, but that's probably why he made it.

sounds like my dealer experience at stanford nissan.. the fooz there tried to sell me a wannabe turbo fairlady.. it had a turbo spoiler witht he turbo sticker but it was a 2+2 seater. the tt dont' come in 2+2. i told him to pop the hood and asked him wehre the turbo was, and he pointed at the intake and say "there it is" i looked under the car (because i heard the turbo on the car is far down below) nope nothing was there. then i told him to take out the spec sheet. and it said nonturbo. and he started saying "well u find me a turbo and i'll buy it, these cars are rare, blah blah blah." then we started talkin' bout experience bla bla and his coworker said, what this young gentleman is saying is "you don't know sh*t about cars" and i smiled and said "perhaps he doesn't"

Hard to find but they exist.

Hey MAXRAY, I think your putting everyone in the same basket, I have been working in sales for 20 years, mostly in IT, and I would not have made that career if I'd be a moron, good salesman are difficult to find in that industries. Many reasons for this, I can make much more money in a IT business and I get respect from my clients because I know what I'm talking about and I help them achieving even more success, in the car industries it is difficult to attract top gun salesman that know's what is talking about, most of them are not interested in making 150$ commission selling a car, what's the interest. You just need to find a reputable person that is doin his job with a bit of passion, they're hard to find but they exist, look and you will find one, if you only shop for the price you will always find morons, look for something else.

Cheers

Give the Salesman a break. Why don't you try remembering every spec in about 8 different cars and trucks. I bet you would forget some of the stuff, especially when they come out with a new car or dozen new updated features. If a Salesman can't remember basic info, like horsepower or models then he is a JACK ***.

Why give the salesman a break??? He obviously isnt a very good salesman. You cannot be a sucessful salesperson without having an excellent knowledge of the product you are selling. If the guy actually had an idea how to sell his products and not look like an idiot he could have said something like this......"I am not sure if Nissan makes a GXE, but let me go check for you." Thats what a good salesperson would do.

I agree. If you don't know then don't answer, just find out. I've known many car sales people who were new in the business and didn't even know what the heck they were selling and made a ton of money.
