Salesmen, boy do they know it all or what?

Went by the dealer today, looked at 2 new 6-speed Maxima's and a portly gentleman came over to "assist" me. Right off I'm wondering if he even knows he works at a Nissan dealership and not a Kia preowned car lot. We talk a bit and he does get some stuff right, like the names of the cars he points to, Maxima, Altima etc Finally he tells me that the 6-speeds "cut-out" at 105? I was like really? He said yep, "had the thang on the highway, and I was in 3rd gear and it cut-out at 105 on me" then it cut-out at 142 again in 5th" All the time he was saying this with a huge glob of spit on his chin that hadn't quite cleared his face when he spit before he started the whole story I feel sorry for who ever buys that car, it's already been ragged out pretty bad. Good times with the salesmen as always

Salesmen know everything there is to know. Never argue with one.

haha, some idiot salesman told me they had a 98 Euro M3 on the lot with 300+hp and a 6spd, it was a stock U.S. Spec 97 M3 w/ a 5spd and no individual tb's.

When the salesman said hit x mph in each gear, do you think this idiot realized he hit the rev limiter each time!?

Yeah, but the speeds are all wrong. 3rd won't go past 92 MPH. 5th is good to 150+.

That's what I was thinking, but I don't know the actual speeds each gear top out in Either way, the car had like 18 miles on it, and half of those were bouncing off the rev limiter, and going 140+

I'd like to see a 2002 Max do 150! Possible driving off a cliff perhaps!

I'm not going to get into this again. It's been hashed over many times. People have had 3.0VQ powered 5th Gens to 150 so I'm sure the 02 can do it too.

*lol* that would be a funny sight. maybe someone should do it just for kicks, build a 2k2 body on a 540i 6-spd SP chassis and drive around at 150. Would definitely get weird looks, like when they built a VW Golf body on a 928 chassis.

Someone mentioned a '97 M3--dang that is a sweet year. 0-60 5.7, 1996 was 5.9. 1995 6.1. Top speed limited to 137. I know someone who has a 95 Lightweight--worth more now than I think new, at least no listing on KBB it's so rare. Only 120 produced in 95--no a/c, no sound system, no leather, no roof, no toolkit, no sport seats, carbon fiber interior, aluminum door skins, NO LIMITER

a 2k2 max will go 150 and a 540 6-spd isn't much faster at all if any.

That'd be like the movie "The Perfect Storm." Even Gloucesterman aren't gonna try to drive a Maxima that fast. The Maxima would be blown all over the place. All you have to do is look at a 2k2 Altima and 2k2 Maxima parked side by side. The Maxima is gonna have some issues aerodynamically speaking.

Reading these post I am going to try to never take delivery from dealer stock when I buy a car, if at all possible. The break-in rules are not respected during the test drives by the customers or sales people. Sales folks seem to encourage people to gun the engine and slam the brakes. I was able to get my Max as it was being delivered to the dealer. I saw it when it had all the packing material on it. I bought it before they had a chance to "prep it" and I have had no problems with the car. Of course, somebody must have driven it (about 3 miles on the odometer) but it had less chance of being abused. I only had a brief test drive because I know this was the car I wanted. Car salesman can not be trusted too much.
