owner's manual says 1000 miles. i just flipped 1000 on mine and have punched it. but i did cheat a couple of time prior to break in period...but only to about 4.5k rpm's.

I never understood why this was such a big issue. Every person that goes out and test drives a new car punches it. The salespeople usually encourage it. Theres a good chance that every one of our cars was "punched" at least a few times before 1000 miles. If it was bad for the car, wouldnt they discourage it or wouldnt more people seem to have problems with it? Sorry if this was already discussed, I've just been wondering about it.

It is a salesman's job to get the sale even if that means letting a potential customer "punch it".

I would drive it easy for 1000 miles. If you plan on having the car for many years it will be well worth the wait.

the break in procedure is a real controversial topic. some ppl say punch it the minute it's yours and other people say baby it until 4k miles. i babied it and was wondering if i shouldn't have.

I have always driven normally with new cars. I feel you are training the ecu for what the motor needs,so an occasional full throttle run is how I have always broken in my cars. Do whatever you feel, but I would drive it like you would any car on any day.

Not mine. I had 2 miles on it when I bought my Max. 2 miles is how far away Brown's Nissans remote lot is and there's no way to punch it during the day
