Speed Limiter

Hey guys, I was just wondering if the 2000+ Maximas have governers. Because me and my friend we're fallowing a Ferrari (Us both in seperate cars, Him in his 92 Talon, and me in my 98 Malibu) on the interstate. I'd say at about 89mph. (we dont see Ferrari's in VT often..at all, so needless to say we had to follow this 355) Then the ferrari speeds to like 150mph i guess he said when we met up with him later, and my friend went to 120 in his talon, i go to accel and this stock black 2000 SE pulls out in front of me, plates were like from jersey or something. And so i followed him all the way to 110mph where my Friggin malibu shuts off, and he kept going, almost keeping up with my friends talon going 130mph, I was friggin impressed. Because my malibu is a V6, like the maxima, when i shut off at 110, i could go so much fast, the tach is like 2800rpms. I've always wanted to kill my governer, but now that im not keeping my car, i see no need, But now, I'd like to test drive a maxima and see what she can do. haha. Thanks for any info. Later

The SE doesn't have a speed limiter, but if it was a GLE or GXE it should have a speed limiter.....Somebody correct me if I am wrong, I am going off a gut feeling on this one.

I have gotten my stock 2000 GXE to 140. I know it has a govenor on it, because I still had room on my RPM.

If you do a search you should find the GXE and SE without C&C have a limiter, due to the H rated tires. This can be fixed by a new or hacked ECU. SE with C&C and GLE have no limiters.

just cause you can't accelerate anymore doesn't mean you have a limiter. A limiter is generally a fuel cut-off sort of system, you hit the wall you slow down. Just like when the engine hits the revlimiter. It doesn't just sit at 6500RPM. It does 6500, fuel cut, drops to 6300-6200, fuel un-cut, back up to 6500, rince and repeat.

If you have ever had a rental car, you most likely have seen a speed limiter at about 100MPH.

hmmmm

You got me thinkin' so I went and did a search for "c&c" and all I found was "comfort and convienence" ???how does that effect speed.

Please elaborate

The limiter is set for as fast as you should ever need to go in a 4dr sedan.

5.5 Gen GXE and GLE have a governor at 130MPH, SE has no governor. Not sure about 5.0 Gen. BTW, I see that this is your second post in the last 5 years that you have been registered on the org.
