Optical illusion or problem?

Have my 2003 GLE now 1 month and it seems to me that when parked in my garage the car appears lean, not straight or out of alignment. The right front appears closer to the wall than the back right. I notice this similar effect when parking in parking spots. The car seems straight from inside but out side it is not parralel to the lines. Hope you can picture what I am describing. I am going to ask my wife to drive it this weekend and I will follow from behind to see if there is any crabbing.

As I said maybe its an optical illusion but this wasnt so with my 2000 gle.

Any way before taking it back to the dealer I am seeking advice as to what sort of technician I could consult with to get it checked, so if there is a problem, I will have some substance for the dealer. One month old, so warranty and lemon law (Florida) still in effect.

Other than this the car is terrific to drive!

Advice please.

Thanks

Bill

level

Probably easiest thing to do is measure from the floor to the highest point on the inside of the wheel wells for both sides of the car. You should also check the floor for being level. If the floor is not level then the car might lean (depends on how unlevel the floor is).

Next way, but more difficult is to use a level across the strut towers and compare the level to the floor.

If I read your post correctly, it's not a problem with being level. It's a problem of the body pointing in a different direction from the wheels (going sideways or like a crab). If this is the case, I would think an alignment shop should be able to spot this or a body shop. If there is a problem, probably a body shop would have to put it on a machine/rack to straighten it out. In this case, I think you would have a good case for a new car - this shouldn't happen on a new car. Anyway, I hope that it's only optical.

Yes that is correct. It appears to point in a different direction. Not a level problem but a crab effect. I will take it to a body shop and have them check the alignment.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice.
That would be called a thrust line alignment.
