2K2 Clutch Replacement Comments

Just got my 2K2 6spd clutch replaced today. Previously it had been chattering and also exhibited the "dieing squirrel" sound.

Just wanted to comment on the huge difference the new clutch has made. To begin, the release/engagement point on the clutch pedal itself is much lower than it had been before - much closer to the floor. I am getting much more feedback and overall feel through the pedal than I had been before. Engagements feel more precise and it is MUCH easier to get quick and smooth shifts from gear to gear. I had previously found it very tough to get smooth shifts because the engagement point was very vague. The increase in feel and precision in the new clutch has helped to remove much of the jerkiness that I had previously been struggling with in shifting this car. (No I am not new to driving stick - I have had a manual transmission car for 7 years.) Also, the stick feels a little bit notchier. I can only guess that this is a result of the new tranny gear oil they put in. Last but least, no more squeeling or chattering . . .

Good to hear its ok. How many miles do you have and was it under warranty? Why do you think you were having trouble with the clutch?

The clutch noise is a known issue. I had mine replaced at ~3500 miles...works like a charm now..WHAT a difference! If only they had gotten it right the first time.

I currently have about 17K on the car, but first noticed the problems around 7k. It took two trips to the dealer before they admitted something was wrong. The dealer agreed to replace the clutch when I had about 11k on the car.

The original clutch chattered during engagement, and would squeal going into first and reverse when it was hot. Also, the performance of the new clutch appears, so far, to be much superior to the original. I think that late 2K2's and all 2K3's must have the new clutch from the factory. Unfortunately, my car was an early 2K2! Hope that helps!
