Chirping 2nd to 3rd at 4157 RPM was exhilarating

Well, I decided to have a little fun today since I have over 1000 miles on the clutch already (most of them from freeway driving). On a street right near my place, I decided to floor 2nd and shift into 3rd really fast to see what would happen. To my amazement, the car chirped 2nd to 3rd at 4157 rpm.

I also did a 6200 rpm shift from 1st to 2nd and the difference between the automatic and manual tranny was nuts! I've never pulled so hard in first before... The sprinted run PINNED me down to the seat!

Auto to manual conversion = FUN (so far)

From what I noticed through other dyno(s), I would have (re)gained about 30 wheel hp just from doing the swap if I was running the 3.125 pulley.

I'm trying not to drive hard yet, but these 2.5 weeks have been killing me... I can't stand driving like granny anymore.

This response is part of the reason I asked how does the new flywheel rev up to redline kev. How fast does 1st fly to redline?

Kevin,

Take you, your half shafted FWD car, and slicks to the track damnet!!!

0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and the 1/4th in 12.4 @119mph on slicks.

How can you pin the RPM's so precisely?? 4,157 RPM it seems would be hard to read so exactingly on an analog tach.... Do you have a digital tach?

Re: How the heck do you know it was 4157?

On the way from work today I pulled out of this turn in second gear and decided to floor it. Did a nice 2nd to 3rd chirp.
Damn FrankenCar intake sounds good at WOT.
Car seems to pull harder now as it is getting cooler here in Boston.

119mph seems a little optomistic!

It revs up really fast in 1st. I can't describe how fast without a video.

Matt Calder mentioned I have the A'PEXi Rev/Speed Meter (digital)... that's how I can get an accurate reading.

I believe it's 6650 for me. I didn't mean to shift up that high. The flywheel surprised me (meant to shift at 5500).

Yes, optimal HP and shift point would be at redline. Dyno in 2 to 3 weeks. Someone is patiently waiting on the SC.

10-15 mph too high.

Yeah yeah yeah... I don't want to blow up the new tranny. :-p

400 freeway miles, right? 1000 to and from work... plus everywhere else we go. I still need about 2-3 weeks to break in the clutch (need more city miles).

Damn, I went to the track as soon as I hit 500 miles... But at 700, when I went to dyno, I could smell my clutch a little, so it's still breaking in... Oh well, ACT says 500 miles...

I want to make sure there is enough "city" miles before dyno/hard driving. Don't want to replace the clutch and go another 500 miles, right?

Hey Y2KevSE, are you still in for the Turbo upgrade ? I might be interested in buying your S/C when it become available. PM me with the price you will be asking for, I want to prepare my car this winter and put the S/C around feb-march 2003, let me know how much you want for the kit.

Cheers & keep up the good works.

You should update your banner and ditch that gear selector in the gauge console! Everyone will still think you are running automagic!

Did you leave the old auto console in there or did you get a new one?

I will update the sig once the projects are completed.

I left the auto console on because the "R" lights up green when I put the car in reverse.

Yes, we defintitely have to hang out one last time before you head down to the "enemy" (SoCal). You gave me the drilling idea before, but I'll hold off on that until the auto cluster gets annoying.

Hurry up with the install. Don't play with your Dremel too much. Hehe

Let's hope that's enough driving for your clutch to take a hard beating. Good luck White Rice.
