Saw a G35 Sedan today
One was parked near me in the grocery store. Had a peak inside. My overall impression: "Meh".
Granted, I haven't test drove one yet, buy I didn't see anything that made me think I have to trade in me 2k2 Max right now and get one.
I think the exterior is more stylish and bold, but beyond that I didn't see anything compelling me to buy the car.
Having said that, the handling might be light years ahead.

I've seen them before, but always on the road. Never had a chance to peek inside before...

PICs Of A G-35 COUPE On The Street
As far as I know the G-35 COUPE hasn't even been released. Check out the license plate. Some kind of a dealer plate. Maybe for a Infiniti district supervisor. I don't particularly care for that spoiler. And I like the beveled fenders but the tires look undersized. Here's the link for the pics. Hope it works :

The one I test drove had the pop up Navi, and the embossed Infinity logo on the hum in the rear seats.. I was so into buying it, till they told me they would give me 22K for my Max. This was 3 weeks after I bought it ! I wish I would have waited. Imagine your Volks on the G35 Gunmax ???
My dad has one. I take it out all the time. It's basically superior to my car in every aspect. With all my mods it pulls on me all the way through the powerband. Its even worse if we go from a start and it gets torque-braked. Having 5 gears helps a lot as well. Flys through the RPMs and stays up there even after the shift.

Yeah, not having driven one might be the main reason my initial feelings are a bit tepid. I'll probably change my mind once I take one out for a spin.

All things considered...
if you equip one with comparable features (not discussing quality) of a loaded SE, you are looking at a $34-$37,000 car. For darn near $10,000 (you know they won't discount these heavily, but Max's are going for about invoice), it bloody well better be a better car in all aspects!!
Yeah, I would like more in my Max, but not sure the $$$ for a G35 could justify a move...

The 'G' has all features with the exception of the Nav system (not of interest to us) and it was purchased for a little over $30k. The car is definitely worth the $$, no question about that at all- styling and the ride, can't beat'em. I LOVE my Max, don't get me wrong...but the G is a different driving experience.

Oh well...
When I test drove the G35 sedan, the first thing I noticed was the suspension. I knew right then and there that this was a luxury sedan, not a sports sedan. If I had a G35, the first thing I would do would be to stiffen the suspension. Way too lose.
I didn't consider the G35 sedan because of the auto transmission.
Maybe next year with the manual I'll re-test drive it (or the 6-speed coupe in a month or two when it's finally out).

While I am impressed...
and can appreciate the performance levels of the car, I just can't seem to really like the appearance...I try to look from different angles and keep an open mind, but there is just something that doesn't 'click' for me...particularly the rear end treatment...
Guess I will wait to see what G35, Gen II might look like...
BTW I am only referring to the sedan since those are the only cars at this stage of life I really have a need/use for...

Actually here in the Houston area I do not see as many as you would think...but then again this IS BMW central down here...you would think we had a plant next door pumping them out!
Most people down here who are willing to spend over $30K on a car want the 'prestige' (however unfounded) of keeping up with the Jones' 3-series!
That is, of course, unless that $30K is put toward a pickup or SUV!!

I dont think the G35 Sedan has the Max beat on looks only in handling. Interior goes to the Max and straightline is just about even despite it being RWD. My Brother inlaw has had one for a few months(use to have a 300TT and we did a little race on the 190 in Plano. We lined up one nightme in my 02 auto he in his 03G one night from a start, he got the jump(RWD) and up to 90 my front bumper was at his front wheel well, neither pulling on each other.
Max vs G35
I test drove the G35 twice before buying my Maxima SE last month. Here are the reasons for my decision to get a Max.
Cost. I got the Max for $23.2 with 0.9% financing over 36 months. The base cloth G35 is about $28K and doesn't have a power driver's seat. The leather version is $30K and is rare without any options. With options the is 33K and up. I wanted headroom being 6'4" so I didn't want a sunroof. Pretty much only the cloth version of the G35 comes without a sunroof. Financing the G35, the rates are like 4.9 or 5.9%. You can't get too much off MSRP either especially on the base model.
Brakes. The brakes are awesome on the G35, at high speeds, but at low speeds they are very jumpy. The Maxima is a much smoother car in many respects.
Noise. The Maxima seems quieter when pushing the car. The G35 tends to growl while the Maxima doesn't seem like it's even breaking a sweat when accelerating hard.
Interior: Overall I like the interior layout of the Maxima better, the titanium dash is better than the orange display of the G35. The G35 has more headroom in the rear seats though and more compartments to store things. The steering wheel on the G is a bit too small for my tastes.
Suspension: I thought the G's ride tosses the passenger around alot more than the Maxima does. Again the Maxima seems smoother than the G. Of course the G being RWD and having VDC takes corners even better than the Max, but the Max's 225/50/17 tires grip pretty well too.
The G35 does come with 6 disc player standard and the Maxima only a single disc. The G35 looks more distinctive to me since it's pretty rare around here.
So what I really would want would be a RWD G35 with the Max SE's smoother brakes and suspension, quieter muffler, and interior. But for now my 2003 Max SE is just fine.
