Just wondering if the turning radius has improved any from the 2K1 model …which sucks badly . I still feel like i'm driving a truck while parking!

i cant stand the turning radius. what exactly causes a bad turning radius? each time i drive i lock my steering wheel at least twice, when making normal turns to.

thats exactly what i do about the u turn thing. its so embarrasing because girls think im lost when im really looking for a place to turn into to eventually go the other way. but if its only the 17's, do all cars with 17's have this prob. what about ricers with 17's? do they turn like buses.

My 89 Mustang GT has the worst turning radius out of any car or tricj I have ever owned.

I am not sure what all the fuss is about the turning radius. My Maxima has a better turning radius than my co-workers 2001 Civic. Actually, my boss drove my Maxima once and commented on how small the turning radius was as he had to made a 180 on a dead end road. I have the GXE with 15 inch rims though and maybe that makes all the difference??

That's what I was wondering. I know that being FWD has alot to do with it but does the Acura TL Type-S with 17's have the same problem?

Turning radius was a huge shock for me when I picked my car up last month. I can't get into/out of my garage without a rediculous broken k turn! My previous vehicle was an Explorer (granted it's RWD) but the turning radius was 10 times better!!!

Not true... I have a GXE and with my 16's the turning radius is exactly the same as with my 18's.. One thing I did notice is that my old car (95 Dodge Neon) has almost the same exact turning radius..

explorer vs 2002 maxima = explorer hands down
1996 maxima vs 2002 maxima = 1996 by far
explorer vs 1996 maxima = its VERY close but i feel like the maxima may have been a little better. but that may just be because its smaller and it felt a little easier getting into parking spots.

if i recall correctly the radius for my explorer was 36.5 feet i think. not sure what the old maxima was though.

Yep, I was about to say my friend has an a4 with 17" rims and he can make turns that I can't even believe. Based on that, we can't really blame it on the rims, now can we...

I don't think it has too much to do with rim diameter. **** what happens when you put on 19's?

My Grand Cherokee has a better turning radius than my 2K2

No, but it has to do with the extra bump stop Nissan puts on the cars that are sold from the factory with 17" rims. That's why SE's have the poor turning radius for 2k2 and 2k3. It has nothing to do with the actual size of the wheel.

maybe your 16's had higher profile tires and by going plus sizing with your rims, the low profile tires make up for diameter of your18 inch rims.

I don't think FWD has much to do with it at all. My previous car, a 1997 Chevy Lumina was a REAL boat, much larger, FWD, yet still had a much better turning radius.

what i found out about the turning radius, is the all the cars with stock 17's have worse turning radius than those with 16's.. this is because nissan put a lock on how much you can turn.. the max and the tl-type s both have 40ft turning radius's... not very good at all... the 16's on the max have a 35.4ft radius... when i had my bimmer it had a 32 ft radius.. now that's good turning!!!
oh.. btw.. nissan put the lock so that the tire would not hit the inside well when turning.. i don't know how this works with people who had the 16's and put on 18's or 19's...

This topic has been covered here before, but....

Does anyone have info on the bump-stops, like where are they, and are they removable? I wouldn't mind dealing with the rubbing possibility myself if I could make the turning radius 5 feet smaller.

someone removed the bump stops. the turning radius did not improve by very much, if at all. do a search. you'll find the thread. it has pictures too.

I wish the Max would have as good a turning radius as a Lexus GS. I test drove the 300 a few months back and made a U turn, usually I swing out far, so I did it in the GS and to my surprise I was almost back into the on comming lane in no time. I came no where near the curb. I was so surprise I did it again, then again.

no. the bumpstop isnt really what prevents you from turning the wheel all the way. at least that is my speculation. the bump stops look like they are only 1.5-2 inches long.

the pictures on this thread dont work anymore but here it is for anyone who wants to read it.

It's not the rim size that affects it, it's the overall tire diameter. I don't know if GXE and SE have same overall diameter, but the SE/GLE do have lower profile tires than GXE.

I did a search in the forum and there were some threads mentioned about removing the "door stop" thing do improve the turning radius. The idea sounds good but wondering is there any issue to do that?
The experience from those who have done this mod is highly appreciated.

Well I don't know about you guys but my max turns brillantly. I have no trouble making U-turns what so ever. So you'll heard no complaints from me.
