Tinting Advice
I was wondering if you guys had any advice for window tinting? There's a local shop that will do tinting for my max for $185, but they also have a special "lifetime" tint which is suppose to not bubble, turn purple, or rip/scratch. The price for that is $235, which the manufacturer of the tint guarantees. I plan on keeping my Max for quite awhile, but I wanted to know if you guys had the option for the lifetime tint when you got your windows done, or you just went with the regular tint.
I'm also debating on either getting 35% (which I think is too light) or 20% (which I'm not sure if it is too dark to see at night with?) but I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems seeing out the 20% windows at night. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Those prices seem a tad high...
also, check your local laws...20 % may be illegal...

Retailer suggest me 15% all the way around but I end up with 20% in the back, 35% in the front. It's not a problem to see the up coming cars from rear view mirror, as long as their headlights are on.
As to the reasonable price range, it varies a lot from place to place. I got quote from more than 6 local tint shops, range from $200~$280(7 windows). But I heard some other members in the forum only pay for around $100.
Go for the Llumar tint or Solar Guard, they seem to have the best results.

Any recommendation for tint places around LA/OC/Inland Empirer area?
Can you trust those $99 deals (even with lifetime guarantee)?
Where can you get the tint that look like the ones on Lexus? Name of that platinum tint?

What do you think would be a good price?

I would think somewhere around $150.00 maybe slightly higher for the sunroof...but again that depends on where you are...since it is illegal, I would think tint shops are hard to find by you so they can charge anything they like...down here they are all over the place...

New York
NO / NO/ NO/ NO / 1993
Note : Very strict law. Replacement glass that is tinted is allowed if and only if the original windows were tinted as well. Medical exemption is provided for with permission from Commisioner of Motor Vehicles.
But as for finding tint shops by me, its actually pretty easy. The place I went to specifically does tint work, along with upholstery, glass replacement, etc. Its the stereo shops that do window tinting that I'm worried about. But window tinting is available here, and even the Nissan Dealership where I bought my car offered 35% window tinting.

i have 20% titanium all around on my 2k2 majestic blue. it looks great and i can see out decent, but only because of the great headlights and fogs. i got the front strip up top 6 inches in limo tint, add a nice effect to it. i live in florida so the price you were quoted seemed to be high. i paid 120 for lifetime replaceability. and make sure where you get your tint done they do it inside when the tint is applied.

20%
I have 20% tint all around in my 2K1 I30t. I would say that regardless of the law, the least you should do is 20%. Some days I regret not going with 15% all around.
20% is really nice; don't get me wrong. It's just that I see so many cars in my area with 10% and 15% that only now do I realize it would have been safe. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably go with 15%. It would still be easy to see out and it would just knock that much more off of other peoples' ability to see in.

I dont' know the percentages.. but I just got the 2nd to the darkest (from limo) in the back and rear windows, and then 2nd from the lightest for the fronts.
The number is California Tint Alarms Auto (626) 287-2321. Don't let them charge you more than $125 cause alot of ppl negoiate pricing. Chinaonnitrous got like $115 or something like that.

35% is not the darkest, it is still much better than none at all, it is keeping your car cooler and saving your interior. And if you live in a strict state it saves you from probably never getting pulled over.
Get the best tint you can afford, with that said 235 sounds high, you should be able to talk them down to 200 even, then throw them a 20 dollar tip if they do good work. I have taken 3 different cars to the same tint shop, it pays to have a good relationship with vendors.
BTW If you have really dark tint it is tough to use your rearview mirrors at night.

i have 20% in the front and 5% in the back windows and rear, i dont have any problems seeing at night. takes a week or so to get used to it, but after that it seems natural. driving cars without dark windows seems hard now, its too damn bright inside the cabin.

Tint
FYI....mine was a bit pricey, but the work was awesome. I paid $260, for 28% Formula 1 metallic tint. This is the darkest legal tint in Colorado. Yes...be sure they do the rear window in 1 piece. This tint does have the lifetime guarantee to it as well.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I think I'm looking at going for 20% all around with the Solar Guard Tint from a place that will do it for $170, lifetime warrantee. I don't think that's bad, considering the 1st place I went to wanted $185 for their standard window tint, and I don't remember if they used Solar Guard Or Llumar brand tint film. So either way, I'll double check again tomorrow to confirm, and once that's done this week, then the Clear Bra Saga begins........
