Suspension Upgrade
Suspension Upgrade
I have a 2001 Maxima GXE and I don't think my car has any way to grip the road. I made a turn at 25 on my way home and lost control of the car AT 25! Would a rear-sway bar or front-sway bar or ANYTHING help? I have toyo tires (yes Alex from Southwest Auto Works T-O-Y-O!) and my car frequently loses traction with the earth beneath me. What kind of upgrades would help, its really actually scary sometimes not feeling traction beneath you.
Both help a great deal, but make no mistake, you won't have an autocross car when you're done. The FSTB helps alot at higher speeds - the front end feels more responsive, solid, and the body roll is a little less than stock. I found it helped reduce wheelspin w/ my limited slip when I took off from a turn too.
The RSB definitely helps reduce body roll, and helps more at lower speeds. Some advice - don't mess w/ the Addeco RSB, get the Stillen. I've got the Addecco, and it's still got enough play from the bushings to give it enough body roll to be really enoying. The courtesy FSTB seems to fine - I don't think you'll gain anything but looks by going for the Stillen unit.
Does anyone else think the stock spring/strut setup on the SE's stinks? My freind has a VW jetta, and it handles bumps better than my car. Plus it'll bottom out going 10 mph over a speed bump!

alignment?bars are just there to stabilize the car....reduce body roll...has little to do with traction.
For me, I think the FSTB helped keep both wheels on the road when taking off like that. I found that the limited slip would actually twist the steering geometry badly enough to cause very uncomfortable high speed takeoffs at a turn - like I had no idea where the car was going. I figured boxing in the top end of the struts kept both wheels in better alignment when I was twisting the heck out of the chassis. I didn't change anything else, and I've got 42K on the original tires with even wear.
