cracked windshield

I was cruising on the freeway at about 70 mph, when a big rock flew out of nowwhere and slammed into the front windshield with a big "whack" sound. Usually I just wince and put a mental note to check it later when I stop, but today... this one left a big ol dent/chip/crack mark about the size of a penny dead smack in the middle of the windshield! Is there some way to resurface this or something, or do I have to replace the whole windshield, or maybe just not do anything about it?

i just cracked my windshield about 3 weeks ago. i was headin to work at a rock hit the passenger side about 1/8 inch away from the very edge. the crack was about 4 inches long to start. later that day it was 6. next morning 8 and so on and so on. had to get it replaced and it cost me $555 hopefully you can get yours repaired.

Larry,

Claim it on your insurane...it will not cost more than your deductible but it is better than driving around with a jacked up window like me...I am always lokking at my 2 chips...

If it's as small as you say, get an auto-glass repair place to fix it, it's pretty cheap, compared to getting the entire windshield replaced. They put a resin in the crack and it seeps into the lines and prevents the lines from spreading.
I'm not sure what Gunner had to get fixed that cost $500+, since the front windshield doesn't cost that much (maybe installation charges?).

Probably not, but depending on your deductible, it might be more expensive than just getting it replaced yourself. Also consider the down time since your car will be in the shop. With the crack repair, they will visit you at your workplace and fix it in the parking lot.

OK first of all, most likely your insurance will cover it without the deductible if you get the glass repaired through them. But there's a downside to getting it repaired...on my car I had the same thing happen and I tried getting it repaired but you can still see the crack, it's just not as visible as before. If you want to save some money than just get it repaired although it won't be like new.
