DIRECT 2k2 6speed vs. CL-S 6speed comparison
FINALLY, I have some results from some totally legit runs. First of all, I have a Stock Black 2k2 SE 6speed with about 7500 miles on it. My best friend, Jay, has just finished breaking in (and then some) his Stock Silver 2k3 CL-S 6speed. Here's the results:
-Run 1: From a stop, me driving MAX, jay in CL-S
Both had a decent, not good, launch = Max wins by about a half a car length to 80mph
-Run 2: From a stop, me driving MAX, jay in CL-S
I had good launch, jay smoked the tires a little = Max wins by 1 1/2 car lengths to 80mph.
-Run 3: From a stop, me in CL-S, jay in MAX
Both had decent launch = CL-S wins by about 1/4 a car length (It seems that since i have been driving stick for years and jay for only 6 months or so makes a HUGE difference with these cars)
-Run 4: From 60mph, me in MAX, jay in CL-S
Max takes CL-S by about 1 and 1/2 car lengths to 125mph.
-Run 5: From 60mph, me in CL-S, jay in MAX
Max takes CL-S by about 3/4 car lengths to 125mph
SOOO the results speak for themsleves. Max wins on the highway and it totally depends on the driver when running from off the line.

To be honest, when I saw the subject line, I cringed 'cuz I thought it was going to be yet another 'which is better' fest!!

makes sense to me.
When you look at these dynos and take into account that the Maxima weighs 200lb less, I'm not surprised of the results. I haven't had time to do the FWHP/Weight chart for these two cars yet. Soon. But it'll agree with the results of this comparison.
03 CL-S 6spd: 217 FWHP / (3446lb/1 ton) = 125.9 FWHP/ton
03 Max 6spd: 205 FWHP / (3239lb/1 ton) = 126.6 FWHP/ton
The slight peak wheel horsepower to weight ratio advantage that the Maxima has over the Acura (because of 200 lb less weight) explains why the Maxima was able to pull slightly on the CL-S from a roll.
Newtonian Physics OwNz AlL
Awaits flames from the Acura folks who will say that Newtonian physics are BS. hehehe

They didn't make a CL-S 6spd until 2003 right? You mentioned "Jay's" (your friend) was a 2002 6spd CL-S? Better get the video camera running!!

typo
Bugnout... why yes... oh mighty one... you have found a typo. Jay has a 2003. Considering he just bought the car in his sister's name just 3 weeks ago, I would hope that its a 2003. It's amazing sometimes how people don't believe things that are posted on here unless they are on video or have pictures. I have enough trouble paying for my car payments, insurance, tuition, rent, and many other things than to rush out and buy a digital cam corder. I thought thats what this forum is all about... writing things that we have found about the car; opionions, likes, dislikes, problems, etc... Sometimes people read way too far into these posts.
Sorry for the vent.

PS I see you updated your original post. Good for you!
Also this is obviously a drivers race and the fact you are racing on the streets it could go either way....like it did.

calls into question hesitation
I believe another issue this highlights is the "hesitation" issue that several people have noted w.r.t. the 02+ Max's. It would appear that either Acura has the same issue or that there is no issue. IMHO, there does seem to be a hesitation, I'm just not convinced it isn't me expecting something different.

Let the flames BEGIN!
HAHAHAH
Anyways, good runs guys. Figured as much. Where did you shift the CL-S at? It has a 7100 rpm redline where you can actually take it up too.

However, I for one always knew they would be close...but the Max would have the edge. Peak HP means nothing. All I know is that I would love to have the torque the Max has in my car.... our torque is too low and peaks too far down the RPM range....
Anyway... great review... I also liked how the drivers switched cars. Seemed nice and fair and honest... good stuff!!
