2k2 SE auto vs. 6 spd S4

Last night I ran 6 spd S4 on the highway. From 85-130. He was coming up on my left, so I downshifted into 3rd and held the revs. He came up on my door, and I matched speed. I gave him the hit and we were off. We were door to door through 105. By 120, he had creeped to make us (F) bumper to (R) bumper. By 130, he was 3/4 car in front of me and pulling when I shut down.

He was totally cool about it and gave me props. Just wanted to share.

You downshifted your auto to 3rd while driving?

That would be correct. At 85, the revs were around 4200, if I can remember right.

I think he meant "OverDrive OFF"...

FYI, 2k2's do not have an overdrive switch. The gated shifter goes PRND321. I went from "D" to "3".

Hmm, did you ever go back to D at this speed?

Nice race.

I raced one on the highway a while back and actually pulled on him a little bit. I am not sure if he was 6-speed or Auto, but either way it was nice race.

Just makes me wonder if he could have actually stayed even with the S4 if he went back to D.

At 130mph he's almost redlining it, and if the dyno sheets are any indication the VQ actually starts losing some power at this point.

Yes, I shifted to D at 6600. I was too excited to look earlier, otherwise I would've been out of 3rd by 6400.

good race dave!

don't you wish nissan would make a 3.5TT AWD maxima!! they wouldn't even have to make all of them that way. maybe just about 5000 cars a year. that would be so sweet!!! then we could eat up those 2.7TT AWD Audi's.

How did you know it was a manual?

A friend of mine just got a 01' S4 Manual and it is pretty quick. I have never run him though on the street, but he could never catch me at the track. His car will be a monster soon though. He is planning on getting a APR chip, which adds something like 60 hp IIRC.

Too bad the guy he raced didn't have the chip and other crap.

I know, chip this and that, who cares.

The S4 I raced had some mods, but mostly suspension I think, it looked nice lowered with nice rims. He did have an exhaust though.
Either way the driver looked surprized that he couldn't pull on me.

Those cars can easily go past 400 hp. A stage 3 turbo and typical bolt-ons and you're there. The problem is that the back seat is tiny

Yeah, I really like S4, awd and nice power, and with a nice chip you can make them fast.

The only thing I didn't like in it was the clutch when I test drove it. It was much harder to engage/disengage it compared to my Maxima.

I would never buy a used any Audi. My friend bought used A4 and replaced almost all suspension now, control arms, etc and other things that just keep breaking.

Audi is a good car only under warranty

Were you referring to R35 GTR?? 3.5L Twin-Turbo~~ I can't see Maxima using Turbo Chargers in the near future. A supercharger Perhabs....or a V8 in like 7 years or so......just my guess...

I asked him, through hand motions, putting up six fingers and pointing at him. He nodded, then I pointed down to my trans lever, held up 4 fingers and shrugged my shoulders. He then gave me the thumbs up.

Too bad the guy he raced didn't have the chip and other crap.

Why is that too bad? Did you want to read about a bigger loss, or did you want to read (like blubyu2k2 said) on how I opened up the Zex and left him? Too bad you don't own the car in your sig...
