Losing lots of oil in between changes
#1
I started using Mobil1 about the 10K mark.. Now I've got 32K on my car, and I've noticed the past 3 changes that I'm only draining 2.5 qts out on the average.. Does that sound normal for taking the change to 5k miles ?
I didnt think I would burn that much oil.. and I know I dont have a leak anywhere in the engine bay..
Anyone else ?

That is really wierd, a new car shouldn't be burning that much oil. I have a 2k SE with about 3000 miles on it and almost get what I put into it, but I do notice that all you you guys have slightly higher mileage than me. I know old cars with over 100k burning 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of oil per change is normal.

next time..
here's what i do when i do my oil change.
drain: i take the oil cap off the valve cover so it lets more air in as oil is drained out so there's no vacum.
i let the car sit for a while so it cools, by that time all the oil has dripped into the oil pan
oilfilter: i drain all the oil from the oil filter into the oil collection drum.. (or what ever u wanna call it)
skip sing blah blah blah
poor all the oil into a empty one gallon bottle (rainX bottle windshield wiper bottle)
lotza black oil but it seems to me taht most of it is there.
no disclaimer needed or..
if you in any way damage your property or others, it is your fault. make sure you protect the surface on which you do your oil change. if for some reason your car collapse on you, you will then know u r screwed and agian it's not my fault.

man i had a harsh life
i get blamed for alotta crap. my mom blames me for sooo many darn mistakes other ppl make. i get nagged at even if she messes up. i hate being blamed on. and also alotta things that happened in the past.. hahaha. but it's just to let ppl know that i can make a mistake..
ohh as far as the oil thing, factor in the oil loss when it got all over your hands, and the oil that is still in the oil drum. (the oil that lines the walls) and most of all u gotta remember to make sure to check if you got the o ring out when u replace the filter. someone in my class left the old Oring in and man... what a mess. a long long long trail of oil all over the place. but it had nothing to do with me.. and some guy also used a air tool to take the drain plug out, that was just amuzing..hahah

Keep in mind the filter holds around 3/4 quart or so. It's a lot better if your Max is leaking oil rather than burning oil. Leaks are easy to locate and fix. Mine leaked from the oil sending unit and i got it fixed under warranty.
If it's burning oil, the dealer won't fix it unless you are burning more than 1 qt every 1000 miles. That's really high (and your engine is prolly shot by then) but that's the industry standard for "acceptable oil loss."

I am trying my best to stay away from any dealership for warranty repairs.. Hopefully the Max will hold up like it has been.. any light engine work will be performed in my garage.. dealers for the most part... s*ck.

i still dont' get y
y stay away from the dealer??? u gonna go back some day if something goes wrong right?? some service dept techies are smart.. they'll know if yuo tampered witht the car. i don't know abut u but my oil change cost 20 bux at nissan.. but i still do it myself.. so have them do it and ask them if they know what's wrong.. (the 20 is including oem filter and washer)
