Audio Question- Amp wiring
Audio Question- Amp wiring
With the JL Audio 500/1 amp (mono), if I want to run 2 12"s, do I need DVC or SVC? I used to be a certified installer, but we didn't have mono amps back then and I have been out of the game for a while. I can't remember everything either......
Anyhow, the amp is 1.5 ohm stable. I am guessing I need 2 SVC subs and I need to run them in parallel? Or am I way off on that?

a.) If you get two 4 ohm SVC subs, then you can run in parallel.
b.) Or, you could get two DVC dual 2 ohm woofers, run in parallel to each sub but each voice coil in series, so 2+2=4 but in parallel with another 4 is 2 ohm.
c.) Or you could even do 3 SVC 6 ohm subs in parallel, but then each sub is getting less power.
Anyways, do a or b. b) is the easiest. Get two JL 12w3v2 dual 2 ohm subs.
For info on DVC installs, try JL Audio's DVC faq.

if your going for sound quality i would get either two mono amps or one stereo amp. Then you could have DVC subs in stereo that gives you a great all round sounding system. and still have the power to put out some serious SPL.

As far as wiring, 2 12" DVC 4s would give you 2 2 ohm loads for stereo if you went that route or boviously 2 SVC 2ohmers
