The reason why I didn't go for a SE is due the stiffness of the suspension. I had a talk with my wife with this issue before purchasing and she told me that she doesn't want a firm one. She previously had a Camry V6, she said that while the acceleration is better and steering is tighter, even with the GXE, the suspension is still too firm. She describe it as jerky or jumpy... Is this due to the alloy wheel? Or just the nature of the car? Does anyone had some experience with these cars? Camry, GXE, and SE?

Just curious, not a complaint!

I think the Maxima GXE might be stiffer due to the combination of stiffer shock and springs, 16" wheels (if you have the C&C package, and the rear twist beam suspension. Also, the Camry is defintely softer and less nimble than the Maxima. There's a trade off here...

yeah My G/F has a 98 camry LE. I can say the car is super soft. The only thing good about that car is the way it drives. I've owned 4 maximas B4. 3SE and 1 GLE and none of them drive like a camry. I had a 94 Camry myself too. but I can say the Maxima would never drive like the camry. ANY TRIM LEVEL. but the Maxima would outhandle the Camry I can tell U that much. I've put my G/Fs camry in some corners and the Car is Lazy, just drive it streight and don't turn too hard. Maxima on the other hand is quick on the wheel. The Rims Have somewhat to do with the stiffer ride but the suspension has a lot more to do with the way it drives.

OH YEAH ON ANOTHER NOTE.. I've Already Convinced her to get the SE 20th ED.. TIME WILL TELL. The only thing she doesn't like is the speed in the Max. she thinks the car is too fast for her.

dumb solution

drive over a speedbump at 50 mph, that'll soften those dampers up.. actually it blows them.. but imo ur kids or kids to b gonna get car sick in the back if it's too soft. gonna feel like u in a boat.

My GXE drives fine...

doesn't feel soft like a Lincoln Landbarge, and isn't so firm its not comfortable. I would say its ride is a bit firmer than some cars, but overall, it gives me a sense of security to know I'm not in a boat
