Okay, this is weird. Today when I drove my car, the tranny seemed fine until it wants to shift from 2nd gear to 3gear, it had major slipping action ...I have reserse and tranny is normal until shifting from 2 to 3rd gear..it just won't go into gear or something..the car is like revving on neutral, then slammed into gear.

Any ideas? (note, this is not tranny slipping per nissan TSB, I already had that done long time ago..changed TCM, Solonoid..now WHAT?

Thanks for any replies!!!

By your description, it sounds like it. You can go back to the dealer, but they're going to charge you for the tranny and labor.

Try driving your car again later today. See if it still happens.

5 speed swap?

did u check ur ATF condition? had any tranny service? 40k is still good for power-tran warranty. I would take off some mods that they can blame on for ur tranny problem and then go back to the dealer.

sorry to hear about this and good luck.

but....if they said that the tranny failure was caused by the TCM. They will charge him the cost and labor of the TCM, since it is a electrical part. tricky

oh lord!....please! please dont let my auto tranny die. I promise I will only boost on 3rd and 4th. (I boost on 1st-2nd last night, I felt guilty afterwards)

I haven't ever heard of a TCM going bad... but can't say the same for the solenoids.

2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are as fun as 1st to 2nd. Go with the 2.87"

Why would they charge me for TCM if they changed the updated one per TSB when they detected tranny slippery long ago?

I am thinking maybe the solenoid is defective or something..but how tho?...more to come

Note that I have the updated soloenoid according to TSB too....so right now I have 1, 2 and 4 gears.....the tranny wont' get into 3rd..for some reason..but can still use cruise control on 4th gear.????

Kev, how much did the AE manual tranny cost you? do I have to get the ECU since my car is Fed spec with traction control???!
thanks

Call up DAVEB for prices. No need for another ECU.

Go with a regular tranny and Quaife instead.

I am sorry, I meant if they detect some other parts are causing ur tranny problem and they are not listed on the power tran warranty, they might charge u for parts/labor. I just use TCM as an example.

have u check ur tranny fluid?

Yeah, checked the tranny fluid, it looks redish (so it seems fine to me???)..drove the car again later this afteronoon...the car went into redline zone from 2 to 3rd gear (revving on neutral)..and then slammed into 4th...sh#t...

should I bring into the dealer with my intake and exhaust mods on it? I think it's kind of unrelated to the tranny, but do you think the dealer will give me crap about it?..oh should I take out the tranny cooler?

Thanks for any help!

I think you should take off all mods whether "YOU" think its related or not. You dont want to give the dealer any reason whatsoever. BTW, and this is scary.. my '00 auto tranny went 2 weeks ago @48K and it was bone stock. Covered under powertrain though.

hmmmm...when's the last time u had it serviced? does it smell burnt?

about mods....dealer can blame on any power related mods and void ur warranty. how many nissan dealers u have in ur area? if u have many, try one of them see what they going to say about ur mods. If it doesnt work....take off all mods and try another dealer.

let me get this right. So, even if you didn't buy the extended warranty, our tranny is still covered under normal warranty 'til 60K? anything else gets cover 'til 60k?

I had power-flush done on my auto tranny 2 months ago with mobile sythetic ATF..now it's an insult to me since my tranny died 2 months later.

yeah, that is what i am going to do..if first dealer gives me crap about my mods..I will have to take it out and go to another one with all stock form except for the body kits& lowered!

P.S I am beginning to think about giving up on the maximas, since I was going to get a SC this spring, and some other mods..now I am so fed up with maxima's inability to hold additional mods...I might just give up! I will post on for sale forum for all the mods I have
thanks

Those Maximum Tuning Bullet-Proof Auto trannies look mighty good right now.
Mine is starting to feel weak to. I get slippage from 2nd to 3rd from dead stop acceleration.
Good luck!

who did ur tranny service? Nissan? I know Nissan would recommand their own ATF.

and if u plan to have the SC installed....I would ask the warranty repair to be a 5spd conversion istead. just tell they that u are willing to cover other necessary parts besides the tranny. I think the cost is slightly expensive to do a 5spd conversion than a auto tranny rebuilt. (u can get a 5spd tranny from a wrecked car for under 800)

dont part and sell ur car

I got it done by my mechanic, actually Nissan dealers won't care if you bring in your own fluid (at least my dealer around my area didn't care).

Now that is interesting, I can tell the dealers to do a warranty tranny swap repair???Anyone done it? that sounds kinda impossible to me even I am willing to pay for other necessary parts cost!

no body ever tried it (that I know)

but if ur dealer is really cool...u can work it out with them....

this is what they supposed to do : 1.got ur tranny out, send it out for rebuilt, got it back, put it back.
2.got ur tranny out, put a already rebuilt tranny in there.

they might find a tranny from a wreck car b/c it's cheaper this way. If they are going to do this, ask them about doing a 5spd instead of auto. u will pay for the clutch, shift, axle, etc.

if they are going to do it......they will have a hard time installing the clutch line around ur ABS. Hope they wont charge ur labor for that.
