i am looking to buy some tires this week and i need to make a quick decision, I found these at tire rack

kumho 235-45-17 ECSTA Supra 712 or 711 for about $90 each...

i know some of you guys hate kumho but the tirerack surveys says that it has good tread life and it got good ratings?

lotta people have em, and they seem to be reasonably happy with em considering the price.
if you're looking for another cost efficient tire check out the brand new yokohama avs e100. i just got a couple of these locally for ~120 each but i think the tirerack has em for 109 in the same size. very good price considering the performance. i love mine so far (outstanding grip, lower noise levels than their predecessors, and less tendancy to track) but i haven't had them long enough to tell you about their threadlife. worth a look.

the Kumho's are a good choice of tire for under $100. a friend of mine who has a 02 SE-R Spec V went through a set in about 20k miles, those things have too much torque.

I just put a set one about 30 days ago. love the for the price big difference between the stock crap. Resist hydroplaning, good grip, look great, cheap, stablity is good, cheap, road noise is pretty good for the type of tire that it is (low profile, directional, high speed rated), and did I meantion they are cheap.

I have tried different brands different cars sizes .... there are better tires but not worth 2X the costs.

Have a good one.

I am not positive, hopefully y2kse will chime in on this one. I'm sure he would know. But, I wouold think that the 235 45s would be slightly lower profile than the 235 50s.

The reason I asked about rim size is because the 235 45 17s are out of spec for a 7" rim. However, there are several people that run those tires with out any problems. I just wanted you to be aware of it. Some dealers will NOT install those tires on your factory rims.

I had them on my 4th gen, 235/40/18's and for $125 a tire they were great. GREAT wet traction , very good dry traction.. I would say 8 out of 10... would be a 7 but for the price they go up a notch.. I got about 19,000 miles on them and they were good... BUT once you get very close to the wear indicator..your done wet traction is ok and high speed driving and turning are a no no in dry pavement
