Whats your favourite gear in a 5spd?

1st gear accelerates very well, but too much thought spent on launching without peeling the tires causing mad wheel hop, at the same time trying to make sure the torque doesnt steer you into the curb AND doing all this without bouncing off the rev limiter -- not too fun.

2nd gear is OK but still kinda short to enjoy.

I'd say 3rd gear from 60 to 80mph is my favourite. Gives me extreme joy to hit the gas hard in this range

that wasn't my point..

my point is you can't enjoy 4th Gear if you don't go tripple digits.. most people have never wound out 4th Gear to know that its better than 3rd

what you mean, nope?

I would love to see Sprint take 2nd all the way out, then bog it into 4th and chug his way to the 'non-pu$$y' zone!!

oh forget it!

For someone with a dry sense of humor who calls people 'pu$$ies', sarcasm seems lost on you.

Just to respond in more detail...quite often

when merging onto freeways or other >55 mph roads I short-shift into 2nd (3k or less rpms) and ditto to third, then lean on the gas a bit more and enjoy the feel of the engine spooling up into the fat part of the torque & HP curves...and enjoy that long, lazy 'pull' in 3rd gear...even my daughter when I do that...

5-speeds are bliss...

3rd gear definately. I call that my "walking gear". That is, if you're hanging with me thru 1st and 2nd, chances are you won't be hanging with me when I run thru 3rd. I've lost count of how many cars I've walked away from in 3rd gear. This is assuming it's not high-powered car blowing its tires off in 1 and 2 (ie LS1 F-Bodies). With my VIM, my Max is a highway beast from 60-100mph in 3rd. Honestly, I never see the reason to test 4th out because IMO there's no need to go 100+mph unless you're at the track. 90-100mph is dangerous enough, I don't need to get a ticket or have a blowout at going 120mph.

Definitely 3rd. Most flexible for "point-and-shoot" manuvering in traffic.

Dave
you are most likely to be in trouble on a blow out at 80 mph too
