2k2/2k3 Cluster on a 2k1
2k2/2k3 Cluster on a 2k1
What would need to be done if I wanted to put a cluster from a 2k2 or 2k3 into my 2k1 GXE? Where is the outside car temperature probe mounted on the newer 5th gens? The 2k1s don't have that feature but if I were to be getting the new cluster, I would like that feature. Anything other than the temperature probes?

From what I recall, the temp probe is beneath the front grill, in fron of the radiator...the readout is part of the automatic climate control (at least in my 2k1 AE). It is the 'AMB' button.

The newer packages are pretty much the same as the older ones, except the SE gauges for 2000-2001 are all the titanium effect (speedo, fuel, coolant, tach), while the 2k2+ only have the speedo and tach in the titanium color. I would put a set from the SE (2000-2001) in your car.

Well on the 2002/3 the outside Temp is displayed in the cluster, its standard and part of the Trip computer so you no longer need automatic climate control to get th eoutside Temp. As far as installing it I dont know if it will work since the 00/01s might not have the correct setup to make the trip computer work.

From the purely practical point of view, if it is hot out, you know it, if it is cool out, you know it...if you have been in the car for a period of time and are 'out of sync' with the weather outside, crak the window.
I have outside temp indicators in both my truck and car and other than the curiosity in the morning (how cool did it really get?) or the mid day (how hot is it really?), they are pretty much useless...you either feel hot or you feel cold and change the AC accordingly...if in the midrange of comfort, who cares what it is outside?

If it is auto, I believe the shift indicators are different as well. My 2K has 1-2-D, while the 2K2 has 1-2-3-D if I remember from some previous posts about installing indiglo guages.
