Same thing here. At first I thought it was the whole unit and then I noticed that it was only affecting the cd player. It is time to get mine fixed, I'm now losing both sides.

This is a common problem with the 2K2 and 2k3 Bose systems. If you do a search you will see that it is the HU. I have the same problem.

Try turning your SCV to low. Mine was on high and I was having the same problem. I turned it to low and haven't had the problem in 3 days. It looks like we may have found a quick fix.

After already replacing my HU with a new one from Nissan, the new one does it as well... but there's a quick fix. Hit the radio (not hard) with a closed fist just to the left side of the display. Use the outside of your hand (i.e. when you hold your hands out like you were a mummy, it would be the side furthest away from your belly-button). Mine does it when I drive over speed bumps. When the "hit" thing doesn't work anymore, go get a new one from Nissan. Rinse and Repeat.

I have to wait 20-30 minutes in the morning for the cd player to stop skipping. I only have 8k on my 2k2. What junk!

What kind of CDs are all of you using? I found that if I use pressed CDs I never have the problem, but if I use burned CDs, I do have the problem.
I noticed the manual says not to use CDRs...so maybe that's where the problem lies. I think the head is having problems reading half of the stream that comes off the cd...like it gets slightly misaligned, so it ends up missing part of the data. I think CDRs cause the problem to occur, because it has problems reading. I found that if I burn cds at 4x or lower there are no problems, but if I burn over 4x then it starts to cut in and out on the drivers side.
Does anyone have the problem with retail cds as well as cdrs?

When it first started, I thought it might just be CDR's, but indeed it is not. Frankly, I think the design is completely flawed.

It is widespread. My dealer alone received an order of 15 of these units just for warranty service this month.

I have the exact same problem in my 2k2. My dealer said they order me a new one. The part is not back ordered but its been 2 and a half weeks since the dealer called me and they still dont have it. The service manager is guaranteed me it will be in on Monday! We shall see.

Also, I can verify Studmans assesment on how to fix it, hitting the faceplate gently with the lower part of the palm of your hand kicks the left side back in.

Me too.....

I would not recommend that you hit it too hard, then you may crack the HU and Nissan may turn your claim down.

My dealer said that he is not even aware of this problem. Ya right!
I need to reproduce the problem before they take action. I guess Ill have to try another dealer. These are the same exact units in the I35. I wonder how Infinity is handling this problem??

beat this

I have had the radio unit replaced 4 times, the fron drivers speaker replaced once, and the radio is broken again just 3 months after the last time it was replaced. I wish they would just rip the whole crappy system out and just give me my money back.

Yep I did the exact samething except I turned the SCV completely off, then turned the radio on for a few minutes and I haven't had a problem since. It was going on for about 3 or 4 days before I turned the SCV off.

I use Memorex brand CD-R's and as of yet, don't have any problems. I also burn at 12X and so far, nothing.....yet. I would venture to guess that it could be the type of CD-R, burner, or burning software you use, but that would be OT from what this post thread is really about. I do have a few Office Depot brand CD-R's that I'm going to try and see if there's any problems.

Wow...I never thought I could be ****ed at Nissan so much until now. I just went in and wasted my morning getting my CD player replaced. Guess what? I drive off the lot after they replace it, and the new one won't play cds at all, I just get an error every time I put one in. So I took it back to the dealership..they said 2 more weeks for a new one, and they refused to put the old one back in..so now instead of having problems intermittantly..now I just can't play CDs at all.

I can't even describe how ****ed I am.....I am seriously considering ditching this car.

Crusader, same thing happened to me. Before I got off of the lot, I put a CD (not a CD-R) in and it wouldn't play. Luckily, the dealer had just gotten about 15 HU's in and they took it back and 20 minutes later had me out the door.

And folks, it has nothing to do with the type/speed of CD-R you might be using. The HU does this on non CD-R's also.

I finally got the same problem also. I kept hitting the left, still now I think it's all done. For those of you that had this problem, if HUs still keep ****ing up, am I to think that the HU will get replaced just over and over for 3 years??? That would suck, anyone had any other solutions, or a replacement that actually works great?

Second aside, I am gonna ***** about the bass at the same time, anyone who has had dealers do anything about this please let me know at laxbeach728@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Neal

Has anyone tried talking to their dealers about getting a refund for part of the package for the Bose Head Unit? Or how about offering to pay more money for them to install the navigation? Korasick, you're on your 5th HU, has this ever crossed your mind? What are you going to do when your warranty runs out?

I'm on my third head unit in my 2002 Maxima SE. The last replacement was due to the same problem that you have described. It's not the speakers. It's the head unit. Here's the scoop on my replacement # 3. The previous replacement head units were backordered and took several weeks to receive. Replacement # 3 took 1 week. I involved Nissan customer satisfaction and came down hard on them including suggestions to them that because of the VALUE of the audio system relative to the car's value that this head unit problem looks like a lemon law issue. Anyway, this last head unit wasn't a rebuilt. The others were. This last head unit was shipped directly from Clarion ( I saw the packaging and customer satisfaction confirmed that it was new not rebuilt ). It has not only been trouble free but the crispness and separation of the CD music is far superior to all of the previous head units. IMO these units will keep failing as long as Bose keeps recycling rebuilt units. Demand a new head unit not a rebuilt.

This Bose defect does not apply to the new Altima. The Altimas use a Panasonic head unit. I believe the Maxima and other Nissans use a Clarion head unit. One high volume parts department told me that the Maxima Bose HU's are failing at a high rate, while the Altima ones are okay.

If anyone is interested, I yanked out the entire 2k2 maxima bose system after having my car for about a month. I would not mind getting rid of it, if anyone actually would want it : P

Re: Re: Bose 6disc - only half works

How did you get customer satistfaction involved? I'd like to get this done right the first time so I don't miss more work then needed. I'm printing out the threads on this so I don't get the "Can't Reproduce Problem" crap. Can I talk to customer sat. beforehand so that I can get a new HU ordered without going to te dealer repeatedly?

I had the same problem that you are having and i finally got mine fixed just the other day. It turns out that the problem is the head unit itself. It has nothing to do with the type of cds that you are using. I got mine replaced under warranty. It took them three radios to get it right, but I have not had any probems withthe new radion that was installed. Just dont let your servise department tell you that it is your burned CD's.

Well fellas I Have some more news that will **** those of you who have had multiple Head Unit problems off. YOU GOT REFURBISHED headunits!!!!

Yes that is correct my service manager told me that they remove the defective head units send them back to the factory where they repair the problem and then send them back out to be installed in another Maxima... I have been waiting for over a month for a new head unit and I was told this the last time I wen to check on the status...

My head units skips for about 30minutes when I first drive the car. I have noticed that if you turn the heat off it will stop the skipping though and then turn it back on after about 20 minutes...

I've had my I35 for about 7 months maybe, close to 12k miles, used ONLY CDRs, usually the cheapest I can find, and have had no problems like the others describe.

I heard a rumor that the Clarion units are manufactured in China. Has anyone pulled their HU and read the sticker on the back?

the bose unit sucks

Got my '02 SE last feb... a few months later the CD player only played on the left side. I realized banging on the unit, made it work sometimes. Then I realized hitting a bump on the road made it work too. After a while of maneuvering dangerously just to hit pot holes and bumps on the road so my cd player would work; I thought, time to take it to the dealer. The dealership, said it was a defective unit and they replaced the whole unit after having to wait 2 weeks for the so called "new unit." This was Nov when i finally got it fixed. It worked fine for one month. Now the CD player sometimes doesn't even play. BOSE sucks. NISSAN sucks for putting in BOSE systems. I will go for after market systems now, Just waiting for the after christmas sales.... any suggestions what to get?
