2k1 Dyno with Budget Y-Pipe

Originally posted in the Canada forum and posted here for a bigger audience

Went with Axel today to DPE Racing; him to diagnose why he's having a loss of power, me to see what kind of gains i'd get with the Budget Y-Pipe plus HAI and, here are the results:

Stock (with 15" rims)

SAE Max HP: 167.42
SAE Max TQ: 147.28
Conditions: 58.77F 29.66"Hg

Budget Y-Pipe and Berk Intake (with 17" rims)

SAE Max HP: 185.62
SAE Max TQ: 176.08
Conditions: 72.72F 29.54"Hg

Overall increase:
HP: +18.2
TQ: +28.8

Dyno Graph here

The runs were done in 2nd gear (autotragic) which isn't exactly close to a 1:1 ratio (3rd gear is ideal in the auto but didn't have a chance to do one this time around) but it is pretty indicative of the type of HP/TQ increase the y-pipe gives.

That would be the one (and that's in Canadian dollars too, so roughly $160USD)

it sounds aggressive without being overtly intrusive or obnoxious; however, i still have the stock muffler.

a 6 hour drive at 75-90mph definitely would not be annoying

hope that helps

Something's strange with your original numbers. No way they should be that low - especially the torque. Your torque numbers are 40ftlbs below my stock numbers. You hp numbers are low too - at 3500 rpm I've got 125 hp and you've got 75.

Take a look at my stock plot.

http://web.tampabay.rr.com/maxgator/...revsafter3.bmp

I'm guessing you have an auto - I have a 5 spd - but still those seem to be very low.

I wonder how Warpspeeds dyno numbers hold up against budget's
on a 2k1 y-pipe.

anyone?

both dynos are from 2nd gear. we didn't get a chance to do a 3rd gear run (~1:1 ratio) this time but i do have numbers in 3rd from when the car was stock: SAE Max HP 162.9, SAE Max TQ 175.5

i really wish that we could have done a 3rd gear run, but that will probably happen after i put on the Budget B-pipe.

Nice gains! And this is with the rest of the exhaust left stock?
Any fitment issues?

Not flaming, but given that I'm not sure that your comparison dyno is of much value.

If anything, you should just use the numbers above which would show a 23 hp gain and a 1 hp TQ gain.

From what I've seen, ypipes give limited TQ gain but decent HP gain. So, 1 ftlb of tq is consistent. However, I would be really surprised if you got 23hp.

But it you can really show that hp gain, I might go to the Budget!

Perfectly valid response, and i don't take it as a flame

However, i wanted to keep the comparison consistent. I have stock dynos in 2nd gear and 3rd gear. 3rd gear is a lot stronger than 2nd as the stock TQ curve in 3rd looks like the y-pipe/intake curve in 2nd.

Here is a comparison of a 4th Gen 5-speed with Budget Y-Pipe and Stillen Intake dynoed in 4th gear. it is a more in-depth analysis than my original post and shows that the y-pipe gives some good gains all throughout the RPM range.

hope that helps

The flex is quite "beefy". See below a pic of the Budget flex beside the stock one.

i almost bought the Cattman Y, but then Budget released the 2k1 y-pipe and them being 45 minutes away from where i live and the Canadian peso being so poor against the US greenback, it just made more economical sense to get the Budget

Not long, 2 weeks. I think they've been out about 1.5 months now for the 2k+ maxes. But so far no regrets, clanks, noises or fitment issues.

I've had it for a month and half now and have no regrets... same as 2K2DEMAX: no clanks, noise or fitment issues

for $250CAN (~$160US) installed, i'd be crazy not to get it

Do you mean like an accordian?

Also, there is no mesh section on the inside like the outside right?

Sounds good...

How do I order? Email?

Also, any word on the mandrel B-pipe?

I'd be down for one with a Magnaflow resonator that bolts up to the stock exhaust.

Best bet is to give them a call. They'll tell you to send your shipping address via email but will take your CC number over the phone. I don't know about their B-pipe though.

BTW, it took an entire week to be delivered.

Thanks! I just sent Jeff an email and I'll see if I get a response.

The one thing I don't get is why they paint the F-pipe IF it's T-304.

I wondered the same thing. On mine, the paint is all gone now and the pipe definitely looks like stainless. So, I guess they did it so that it looks good when you receive it. Maybe you can ask them when, or if, you order it.

Auuuugh...what do you mean the paint is all gone now?

Did you sand it off or did it "naturally" happen?

Naturally happened. Now exposed is the metal and all the piping is stainless. That's why I was thinking that they only painted it for aesthetic purposes.
