Has anyone checked/installed/tried to install the Nissan 2003 Mirror with the built-in compass into a 2002 Max? If so, how was the install? Any pics, etc?

 

Yes it will work. The compass module is inside the mirror and you will be able to just take off the old one and install the new one in its place and use the same connector. Once it is in there the mirror will take about a day or two to sync itself to the magnetic poles (dont ask, it just does, lol) and the compass will work. I had installed one from the same company in my Contour SVT and when it was totaled in a flood I easily installed it in my Max in less than 5 minutes. Now if it has a temp reading in the mirror that will require more wiring for a tempeture sensor.

Will it work with ALL 5th gens? I was looking at a universal auto dimming mirror with compass but passed as it retails for about $200+ plus shipping. Does the compass mirror have auto-dimming as well? I know the AE mirror had that.

 

Yes the compass mirror is also auto dimming.

 

It will work but the price that I got from the dealer was over $700.00! It is part #: 96321-3Y500. All I would be gaining is a cumpass. I opted to stick with what I have.

 

heh, you called the wrong dealer. I bet Dave can get you that for 2 bills... Sometimes I think my local dealer gives me "go away pricing"

 

It cant be that much. If Nissan really charges that much buy from Ebay one with a compass by the same company that makes ours. That way the power connector is the same and it'll slip right in the new one. I forget what company builds them but it shouldnt be too hard looking online for one that looks similar but with a compass. If you do buy online have your seller take a picture of the back of the mirror and compare.

The mirrors should be interchangeable in all Maximas, granted the connector to the windshield is of the same type. I installed the AE temp/compass model in my 2k, which originally had the plain/non-electronic model. See http://www.fourthrock.com/maxima/mirrorinstall/ for installation pics.

All I needed was a power source (fuse box integration) and a place to locate the temp sensor (in the front the same place the auto climate control sensor is located). I would think the 2k3 mirror would be the same, generally, and would fit and operate quite nicely in a 2k2.

The 2k1 mirror I purchased had the installation instructions included and everything was the same between the two car model years. If you peruse my install pics, you'll see that nothing is too complicated but the process is somewhat involved. Oh, yeah, don't break the glass trying to remove the original mirror (if you do try)
