Dammit people, scape and defrost!! (vent)

I need to vent...

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with some of the people out there?

This past week the wife and I have been sharing our 2K Max because our 6-spd is finally in the bodyshop getting repainted after the unfortunate "city worker on giant lawnmower peppers my car with gravel" incident.

Anyhow, I had just dropped the wife off at work and was making my way to my office. I got stuck behind this Sunfire being driven by some woman going half the speed limit (20 km/h in a 40 km/h) zone.

She had obviously just jumped into her car without bothering the let the car warm up or scape the windows, because most of her windows were opaque with frost. Her rear defroster had started to take effect, but her winshield was pretty frosted up. Her solution for the windshield was to constantly run the wipers and repeatedly spray windshield washing fluid.

So we get to the light, and we are both in the left hand turning lane (me behind her) waiting for the light to change. She's still spraying like crazy, and I can see that her windshield is all fogged up on the inside. We are facing south and about to turn left (East) and you can only turn left or right at this intersection (its a 3-way).

Light turns green and we start our left turn when she slams on the brakes in the middle of the intersection, halfway throught the turn. I almost rear-end her because I don't really expect people to come to a screeching halt halfway though a clear intersection. The guy behind me almost does the same thing to me, probably because he doesn't expect people to stop either.

The problem? Guess what comes up in the East in the morning - the sun. She basically can't see a damn thing because the fogging and frost on her windshield is catching the sunlight, so she came to a complete stop in the middle of intersection and wasn't budging.

I'd pretty much had enough of this by this point, dropped to first, went around her while laying on the horn to emphasize to her just how much of a slobbering, half-wit, my mommy and daddy are brother and sister moron she was.

The guy behind me, in an apparent attempt to reinforce the point, stopped beside her, wailed on the horn to get her attention and when she looked over, gave her the finger before screeching away.

This is Ottawa Canada, man! We have below freezing temperatures for 6 months out of the year, every year. Its not like its a big surprise that your windows are going to be frosted up in the morning, unless you recently moved here from Alabama.

Just wait until there are 8 inches of snow on a car you're following and you realize the only thing they did to clear it was wipe their hand around the driver's side windshield to make a 1 foot by 1 foot clear patch.

I don't recommend you do this, you might get shot these days, but once I got out of my car at a light and started cleaning the car in front of me, all the while yelling at that dumb ***** for leaving a foot of snow on her car.

She didn't know/realize/think other cars are driving in a white-out behind her. And, she couldn't see out the side/back windows.

Stupid people **** me off.

I always see people driving with a small circle cleared, hunched forward over the steering wheel trying to see out of their porthole.

The thing that ****es me off about that is that once they get up to speed, the snow they left on the hood, roof and trunk comes flying off.

Depending on the snow, you either get large slabs of somewhat hard snow smashing into your car, or if its powder, you get a temporary white-out. Very dangerous stuff.

I remember the city worker thing! That was when I first joined the .org in the summer. I really haven't had any problems with the way NJ people drive in different weather. Sure, there are some maniacs but you rarely see stuff as stupid as leaving snow on the car.

Snow on the car...

Ditto. Snow on the car drives me nuts. The worst is people with SUVs. They can carry enough snow to last well after the storm and then these Titanic-Size iceburgs are heading for your ride.

I used to have a Durango and I would clean ALL the snow off of it before I drove. Partly to be courtious, partly because I'm OCD

The window fogging is bad too, but I've been guilty of driving with my head out the window to see when I'm running late for work.

Snow is the price we pay for not having to live in California.
