Nissan, meanwhile, overtook Honda Motor Co in the domestic market and regained its position as the holder of second largest market share in Japan for the first time in 16 months.

All five carmakers also reported rises in domestic production in July. But in domestic sales, only Nissan registered an increase, while Toyota, Mazda, Honda and Mitsubishi Motors Corp saw declines.

This bodes well for more interesting Nissans in the future...

You got it backwards, Daimler Benz bought Chrysler outright. They are in a much better financial situation than Ford.
