How much faster is an 02 auto vs an 01 auto?

Also, what other standard interior features were upgraded?

I have an 01, but I may be trading for a new 02 if the price is right and my payments stay the same.

2k2 autos are running anywhere between 14.6-15.4 (those are rough figures. on average, it tends to be very high 14's to low 15's. 2k1's are about .5-.7 seconds slower. but more than all out speed, the main difference i noticed was that the 2k2 had much better daily driveability because of its low end torque. it's among the best low end you're going to see in an import six.

sorry to post again, but as for options, the xenon headlamps are probably the biggest item. the interior was touched up for the 2k2's, as for the exterior, the grille and the tailights are obvious changes, but the front and rear bumpers, along with the side skirts are different for 2k2.

only bad change i can think of is the throttle by wire system of the 2k2 - it's not horribly annoying but it causes some irksome instances of throttle hesitation when you first hit the gas (hard), and when you let off the throttle and gas again at highway speeds.

hope this helps. overall, if you can keep the payments the same, and you the price is "right", by whatever standards are you are using, the advantages of a 2k2 are significant enough where i would i do it if i were you.

Re: How much faster is an 02 auto vs an 01 auto?

Here's my long-winded personal experience:

My bro-in-law was driving an auto '02 and I was in my auto '01 AE. He had been flooring it earlier to test it out (it was a loaner) so I pulled up next to him at the light and signalled to race. I remained even with him until we shut it down at about 100kph. I was happy that I kept up but then I talked to him about it later. It turned out he was so scared by the torque steer during his earlier runs that he was afraid to floor it when racing me since the lanes were so narrow. He had 3 regular-sized people in the car. I had 2 short skinny people. That should give you an idea of the difference.

I'm quite sure however that things are pretty even between the two vehicles once you're at highway speeds.

What mods?

What mods will need to be done to bring the 2001 Maxima w/ automatic to the same or even better acceleration than the 2002?
Nothing too expensive?
Input appreciated,

Thanks,

Kevi

We all know that the 2k2 is going to rape a 2k1 stock to stock automatic's from a deap stop...

...But I always wondered how a 2k-2k1 automatic will do from a 60-100mph race with a 2k2 automatic.

What do 2k2's trap? What do 2k1's trap?

Most 2k2 autos are running mid to high 14s at about 92-94 mph in the quarter. Most 2k1 autos run mid 15s at about 90ish in the quarter. It is quite a difference...

there pretty much the same. Its according to how hard your car pulls coming out of first. In my expenences running my friend its about dead even. Both of the cars only has a dropin intake.

you power shifted? or just left it on drive and felt the gears change? 3 car lengths does seem like a lot for only 1st gear. Maybe he couldn't drive? If you left it in 1st gear on the auto..i hope you didn't hit a high speed.

That sounds about right. Well driven 2k2 Auto is almost impossible to catch in 2k-2k1 auto(even a stick would have hard time keeping up). I mean is there anyone in 14s on an NA 2k-2k1(auto) ?

i cant take saturns by 3 cars in 1st gear, i dunno how a 2k2 can beat a 2k-2k1 by 3 cars in 1st.

there is a 2k2 GLE modded that did 14.3 in the 1/4, most of the 2k2's get into the 14's bone stock

and i forgot to leave something out... my cousin's car is an auto, and we were going uphill, so in a way, i did have an advantage, because 2k2 has more torque than horsepower(not at the crank) at a higher standard... and oh yea... he did have another person with him. and i was by myself. maybe that makes things more realistic. and i did not power shift. i left it at D.

Thanks for the responses so far. At this point, I conclude that the 02 is about half-a-sec faster thru the 1/4mi, but not as fast as some have stated . That is about what I figured.

I will be trying to work a deal in a month or so to see if I can acquire an 02 SE at invoice (I got my 01 for invoice, btw) and with lower financing. If I can, cool; if not, no big deal. I like the changes to the 02, particularly the increase in power. They could have kept the tail lights though .

From the track times, I've seen with stock mods, or just an intake.. your looking at about a full second, or .80 ....
