When I start my car when it's cold it sounds like the belts squeal for a second. It doesn't do it while I'm driving at all. When I start it when it's warm there is no squeal. I'm thinking maybe because of the new belt. Anybody have any ideas?

Try increasing the tension on both belts (within reason of course...don't make it super tight). You should barely be able to twist the belt 90 degrees at the longest run between pullies.

If this doesn't work, I believe I've heard of others having a squealing problem in spite of good belt tension.

If the belt's been squealing quite a bit for quite a long time, it's also possible the belt is toast by now and even more prone to squealing. A squealing belt means it's slipping over the pulley rather than turning it, creating a whole lot of heat due to the friction. Eventually the belt will glaze over and lose it's ability to grab as well as a new belt.

 

i had a similar problem with my udp except it was more a of a ticking than a squealing. i thought it was either the tension or deflection of the belt but it turned out that the tensioner pulley was shot. i only had 18k on it but somehow it went bad. im not sure if the udp somehow knocked it out of balance but i replaced the tensioner and have not had any issues yet.
