The best time was 15.0 at 90 mph 2.3 60s.
Best 60 ft was 2.2 with 15.2 at 88 mph
We tried everything, cool down, tire pressure, etc.
The car shot off hard off the line, but in the end, it just didn't have it.
I ran against a CL-S that came along to run, I got him in the 60ft, but he passed me and won. His 14.9 at 95mph with passenger, and load of junk in trunk. To my 15.0 at 90 mph.
I knew my cl-s felt stronger on the highway, but it was hard to tell. This was definte proof that the CL-S is faster on a roll, but right off the line 0-60 the Max is killer.
There was a modded 4th gen running as well and we ran each other twice. I could only get him about 1.5 cars ahead that was it. He was running 15.4 at 88 mph (4th gen 95-96 auto with exhaust, and intake, udp).
The only thing we can think of is the octane that was put in the car may have been 87. But octane won't make that HUGE of a difference.
I knew my 5th gen 5spd 2001 was faster than the autos, and this just proved it.

Cracuras ROCK!
Hell, I could do a 15.0 @ 90 in a 2k2+ Max (with 93 gas and proper break-in), and I've never raced on a track.

I punched the gas and let the car bounce off the limiter and it only went to 6700~
Not really related to this thread, but I had some runs my friend's TL-S this weekend. It was nice and very cold outside(computer was showing 28F), and my intake was loving it.
Anyways, we did about 3 runs, all from a roll at about 50mph or something like that.
All I can say it wasn't even close. I was thinking his VTEC will give a better fight, especially on the roll on the highway, but I pulled very easy on him.

Not very fair personally.

Now if the TL-S had headers, he would have been dead even wtih you probably and him being a auto.
CL-S with only headers this past weekend ran 14.3 at 99 mph auto.

But on a roll, I dunno about messing with a properly driven CL-S....when one can trap at 95 mph stock, and with only headers 99 mph.

Anyways, sounded like fun and hopefully your car comes back good as new.
Also, I've gone to the track with a friend(GoldenType-S on your board I think) of a guy on this board that had a CL-S auto with AEM CAI and Comptech header. The BEST time he got was a 15.0xx after SEVERAL runs. However, in his defense our track is friggen slow compared to what other tracks see and just for reference my first time at the track the same night and crappy driving got me a 15.5 with a Stillen intake. Later, I learned I was shifting waaaaaay early and I never got a good launch. I either spun or had massive wheel hop, which I rode the clutch or let off to save my motor mounts. In other words, I could have EASILY shaved another .2-.3, so I'm not all that shocked by your "CL-S with only headers this past weekend ran 14.3 at 99 mph auto" considering we've all heard some crazy unrepeatable times before. Such as the Altima running a 13.9 stock I believe.

BTW, supposedly GoldenType-S bought a 6-speed 2K2 after all.

Re: Russ...
Well, he ran 14.4 many times at 98 mph as well so the time is believeable. Unlike the Altima 13.9 only once the rest were id to low 14s.
They don't rent Altima 3.5s though, the 2.5SL is what they rent, which I was like uh no!
I shifted at different points. I did it at 6, once at 6500 and hit the limiter when shifting. Like I said, we tried everything we could from other drivers, to pulling the air filter out to help. lol!
15.0x actually sucks for a CL-S with headers. He should run mid 14s with good driver. But I can't say much, I should be running high 14s, but then again I can't get traction in my cl-s on laucnh, and once the headers are on, I will just spin through 2nd! lol
Edit: Your GoldTypeS guy ran a best of 14.7 at 94 mph.... and beat a 2002 Maxima SE Auto per his post:

Second, I doubt the octane made THAT huge a difference, since it was pretty cold out. No doubt if it was 100*+ out that would have been a HUGE factor. Third, by those trap speeds you were short shifting or shifting too late according to the 92-95+mph times this board has seen. I'm not saying you did it on purpose, since you asked ahead of time on where to shift. I'm just saying that those MPH are clearly evident that you were not squeezing everything she had due to your limited seat time.

Anyways, like I said the track out here is slow PLUS he ended up with a 6spd 2K2, so apparently he needed an "upgrade".

I'm still waiting to see if you jump into a G35C 6spd once available.

But 2004 I am looking at...
IS430 5 or 6spd
GS430
G35 sedan 6spd if available
S4 (new model) 6spd
TL-S (maybe a 6spd by then?)
And all depends what is out at that time too. My car will be a year only in 2 months (yes I made it to one year), and I am still very happy with it. So I plan to keep it for a while longer to get some value in it.
tachs are off a good 400rpms at redline, i shift at redline all the time. i actually do half throttle lift shifts now. i just slightly ease off the throttle then bang shift and right back down. i'm getting mad fast lol
only took a year.
only took a year.

Look at the times, like I said, yes its possible for me to beat one in my 2001 per my track times and trap speed.
lol
A Auto 2k2 though doesn't have the trap speed my 2001 5spd did.

Like I said, you don't even know me. And you are the ONLY one that is causing me grief. Others do it as being playful. But you are the one taking it to the next level.
You to me Jake are a kid. You are the one acting like a child and wanting to continue on and on. I have been here for 6 years. I have alot more respect than you on this forum and others than you might think. Half the people who knew me are actually no longer part of this forum and have grown on to bigger and better things. They actually got tired of all the newbies like yourself coming in here trying to control things thinking you all know more than the older crowd. You sir are the one that is following a handful of others path trying to be cool and jump my case when you have no real facts.
I have stated the facts and have put the plate down. You sir have your opinion.
Your right, I did say how long I am here. As you see, no one is backing your stupid *** up. Wonder why.
Oh yea, I use to run this site too for over 1 year back in 98. Look under the history of max.org

Thanks a lot Russ, u cause so many problems and now this? You should be ashamed of yourself.

I trapped 93 stock in 85 degree weather and just trapped 78 in the 1/8 with only an intake. not a very close race IMO. not hating just don't think a 2k1 and 2k2 autos are that close in speed.

After reading all this, I can't help but wonder one thing...
Why didn't Russ follow the Maxima owners manual (2003 page 9-2) and run 91 octane or better octane fuel?
The very FIRST thing I learned when I bought my Maxima was to use 91+ octane fuel. The very first post I read in this forum was the FAQ, which also said to use 91+ (Chevron) fuel.
In my opinion, anyone how wastes time and money at the strip to race with 87 octane fuel is nothing more then a poor example of an enthusiast. Too bad Russ didn't think very clearly before he took his time at the track. Common sense pays dividends, lack of it cost us all.

If I rented a 2k2 Max would I spend the extra bucks putting premium in it so that the next person could take advantage of it? Umm...no!

Anyhow, Russ' mistake was not wasting time going to the track. His mistake was trying to make any conclusions about the car based on his experience with a rental, which I called him on. And 15.0 @ 88 really isn't the best time when other people here have been able to run high-14's in the low-90's. Hell, even 4th Gen auto's and 98-02 Accord V6's will trap at about 88 stock!

I dunno, i do know my baby personally likes the upper end a lot more than the low, maybe that has something to do with the mph...

A VQ35 will clearly rip through 1st and 2nd gears a lot quicker than a VQ30DE-K will, which explains the better ET's. But once they shift up to 3rd gear at 80 mph they're sorta stuck in a gearing hole. 3rd goes up to about 130 mph which is VERY tall so it's really tough to pull in that gear. So NEITHER of them will pull very much from 80-95 mph or so, which explains the lower trap speeds.
For comparison, the Acura's 3rd gear goes up to 110 mph. Much shorter. This explains why they trap out a few MPH faster than 2k2 auto's, because their 3rd gear allows them to continue accelerating through the end of the 1/4 mile (and then some), whereas the Maxima's gearing does not.
Translation: The Acura's gearing are specifically optimized for 0-60 and 1/4 mile accleration. The Maxima's gearing is not.
If you look at 5spd/6spd 5th Gen's 1/4 mile times you'll see that the 00-01's will hit low/mid-90's whereas the 02-03 6spd's will hit mid/upper-90's. So the extra power is there, but in automatic form it's hobbled by the gearing in the last few hundred feet before the finish line.
