INJE CAI 2k2 MAX

Hey,
I've been reading how alot of you complain about issues with the MAS or some weird behavoir with this intake. I just ordered it, and now I'm worrying already. Should I not even bother using it? I have the extended warranty, and I planned on yanking it out for each time I'd bring in the car. I don't want to have to deal with some bull****, and I'd really like some testimony on what you guys think of this particular intake. The car has been running great, its almost at 9000 miles and I haven't modified anything. I was only going to do the Cold Air, but give me some ideas please.

Thanks

marc

Re: INJE CAI 2k2 MAX

I just recieved my Injen intake today. It was fairly easy to install except for the 3 inch rubber housing to fit onto the 3 inch throtle body. It took some work to put that piece on, the rest was easy. It sounds sooooo good it's unreal. I did a search on all intakes and I heard people having more problems with some of the other intakes. Personally, I think them problem comes from having the filter too close to the MAS. That's just me though.

Pro: Intake sounds great and performs great too. Oh I almost forget to say it LOOKS great! Its definitly worth the price.

Cons: As with any other intake, dealer might give you some BS about it voiding the warrenty but some dealers are more cool about it. It just depends.

injen intake

I installed mine last weekend. It was a little difficult but nothing that any DIY would not be prepared for. I have an appt. to have my car dyno'd on the 12th. It's up to you if you want to wait. You already have it so you might as well get used to the sound.

The Injen CAI install was cake. I don't think anybody has had MAF problems with the Injen yet. Mostly happened with overoiling of Frankencar or something...

Sure thing. I'm curious how it will compare with my baseline dyno I did back in June (208HP/225TQ). I'm not expecting a lot but I hope for something more than 4-5.

Same place, same SAE dyno. Weather will be a little cooler (june versus november in the bay area/CA).

I had the Injen on for about 4 months. Before that I had the Franken. I just took off the Injen to test the but Dyno and I was suprised.

When I put on the Injen it took the car about 5 days to re-learn the mapping. When I put back on the Franken, the car just ate it up. It took off like a rocket. I origionally took the Franken off because of the 90+ weather we were having for over a month straight. It was clear the Intake was killin the power. The Injen did great, but now with the weather rolling in at 40 and bellow the last couple weeks, the Injen was performing about the same as it was before. This made me question it's ability to feed the air to the motor. The RPMs on the top seems to stall out aroun 5800RPM.

When I dropped the Franken back on last weekend, I opened it up the next day and the Redline was nailed in no time. When the VI switches at 4k the car pulls even harder. It is obvious that the short stack design provides more power and top end than the long straw.

If you have a 6speed you will benefit from the short stack. If not, I wouldnt really bother. Also, if you dont like to run up the RPMs to hit the speed every now and then I wouldnt worry about it. The INJEN performs better under NORMAL driving conditions, vs. the Frankens Race inspired design. <Cheesy line >

Sorry so long, but I have been messing with these intakes all year. Next summer my Injen will go back on, and when it is cold, the Franken will be the main spot.

------------------------cut off

Thanks for the info, I'll try that intake out. I've never put in an mod before so it should be fun I guess. I hope my service at nissan won't be ****s about it. I think my next mod after this will be some RIMS. I Kind of like the BBS ones.

So far all i did was a system and tints.

I'm also curious if nissan was all ghey about aftermarket exhaust/mufflers too. I called up my dealer pretending to be some one else and asked, he just said all I was voiding was my airbox... I didn't bother checking about the exhaust yet.

So does the Frankencar Intake hurt performance at the low end? ie loss of torque and HP? Not exactly what I want to hear since I ordered one last week. No sense getting an air intake that will be detrimental to my daily driving (90% highway).

You should enjoy it then. On the highway this intake is great. when you upshift, pow your gone, and it sounds great too. With a 6spd you will appreciate the Franken. If you have really hot air in the summer then you will start to notice the power difference.

Dont worry there is not that much difference between a CAI and WAI. And no you will not loose HP with the Frankencar, in reality the difference is very minimal and almost unnoticable
