Soft Nissan Paint + Halloween Egg = Damaged Paint
Soft Nissan Paint + Halloween Egg = Damaged Paint
Jeezus. Another testament to crummy Nissan paint...
My 2002 Max incurred some damage last night to a door, when some punk egged my car. It hit really hard from the sound of it.
As I washed it off, I saw an obvious white 'spiderweb' of cracked paint covering and area larger than the egg itself (maybe almost 3 inches wide) And it really looks like a spiderweb, with round white cracks filling the entire circle (on black paint).
I've seen cars get egged many times over the years without damage. But no, not Nissan's paint! I wonder how much it's gonna cost me to fix, as I'm sure insurance won't pay (deductible).
Do we have to worry about snowballs in winter too?
GRRRR!

An egg impact will damage any cars paint. The shell cuts like a razor upon impact. The spider web mark it leaves is like the eggs signature.
Sorry that your car got hit.

A Holloween egg ruined my paint job on my Dodge Stratus a few years back. Unfortunately these kids will learn too late, but one day they will look back and regret what they did as their car gets egged. My parents are very well off. My father told me, "son, I could buy you a ferrari if I wanted to, but you'll never learn to respect anything unless you earn it". Although he bought a few cars for me, I always had to make payments until the car was paid off. Just no interest
My Z3 was egged about 3 separate times, it was even partially on the convertible top. I was able to get it all off, and didnt even damage the paint. I guess I got to it soon enough, and I guess it had better quality paint. I would hate to see what would happen on my Max!

15 coats of paint?
You must be kidding me, the front end of the 330 looks just like the front end of my 99 Max. It shows the same signs of road sand blasting. We also had an egg hit the rear door last year. The famous spider web mark was wet sanded and buffed, it's nice and smooth but you can see it if you look close. What makes paint withstand chips isn't how many coat, fact is the more coats, the more prone to chips and cracking it will be. The key is to use a very hard clear coat. Sherwin Williams has a new clear coat out that is hard as a rock. It's very expensive and we only use it upon request from a customer. Mercedes uses something similar on their cars paint, thats why it looks awsome, doesn't fade or get swirl marks and stands up to road hazards. It's also very expensive!
egg is very very acidic and if u left it there just for few hours (worst if under sun light) it will go straight into ur paint. sometimes the damage was so bad that a bodyshop needs to remove all paint and wash it off the metal with chemicl. bird drops comes on second place.
sorry to hear that, my car too have some love marks from egg (mine's after easter, kids got too many egg and donate some onto my car) and bird drops.

As of tonite, the day AFTER Halloween my car and every cars on next street was spray with shaving cream. As a bonus my car was the only one with eggs on it. If I ever find out who did this.....his mom won't even recognize him after I'm done. Sorry for beening so violence and yes there is web like paint chip from the egg impact.

Pvaudo: While I do agree with you that Nissan's paint sux, if you ever do find out who threw that egg, that would be your chance to unleash some fury!

Wow, I had no idea this happened on other cars. I've been egged before and never saw this, but it's true it was a very hard impact this time. Luckily(?) I am going to the body shop in 2 weeks to fix the tailight/rear quarter that some old guy in a pickup truck backed into. So I'll get if fixed with cash but no extra trip.
As far as catching the kid, I would have LOVED to wring the little bastard's neck.. I immediately locked the brakes upon impact and got out of the car and marched over to a group of about 15-20 teens. As I was spouting my mouth off at them, I was surprised they didn't get aggressive back towards me. I finished what I had to say and (smartly) returned to my car (hey, there were a lot of them) when the cops came by and dispersed the crowd. He gave me a case number, but I don't think I'll get away with no insurance deductible, so I will have to pay.
I know what you mean about having appreciation for things. These kids have no idea of the inconvenience of out-of-pocket repair expense or an trip to the body shop for a freakin' egg's worth of damage.
