Wind noise?!?!?

Is there any solution to the great amount of wind noise that comes through the doors??? I took the car to the dealership and they told me that it was normal, and that I should have bought a mercedes if it was that big of a deal ...anyone find a solution that actually works???

By the way, the noise is coming from both of my back doors, and I could hear it while going over 60.....

Someone pls. let me know!?!?

Sorry for the venting...

Thanks in advance....

Yeah the only solution as of right now is the TSB for the rear windows. I had that done but it did not make that much of a difference. Try it for yourself.

No I think it's been out for a while. I had it done back in June.

My Maxima also has alot of wind noise, also. I had a friend drive my car while I moved around to all seating positions. I had wind noise at every seating position EXCEPT the passenger's front seat. There is a service bulletin for the rear windows but the only thing I can find for the front is wind entering thru too large a gap between the outside mirrors and the door. The service bulletin is NTB99-056D/BT99-038D.

I have an old Ford and and an old Toyoto that are much quieter than this Maxima. So the argument of "get a Mercedes" is BS. This is Nissan's flagship!

Re: Re: Wind noise?!?!?

Ditto on the windnoise. I have a 00 SE loaded Auto and mine sounds like a freight train inside when going down the freeway at 75-80mph. This is partially to the Dunlop SPA2's, but it's just plain loud in there. I always tease my dad (drives a 2000 Taurus) that my Max rules over his tortuise. I let him borrow the Max for a 30 minute trip and he came back and said "Nice car, but I sure thought it would have less wind noise!". You can hardly talk on a cell phone at 80 with my Max. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in that I'm way unimpressed with the sound deadening in the 00 Max. I'm wondering if the I30/35 is much quieter since it's an Infiniti with greater sound proofing, etc

Sad but true. This is one noisy car. Noiser than the cars I owned in the late 1980's. The latest TV ads for the 2003 Maxcima mention a triple seal at the doors to reduce wind noise. Can that be retro-fitted? We need to pressure Nissan to address this issue!

My 2k1 SE has the wind noise in the rear doors/windows. I complained to the dealer and the morons rode the car around and claimed they didn't hear it. As SHPatel states, TSB NTB01-029 (for 2k and 2k1, came out in May 2001) shows the "fix", but it seems to just be a bandaid solution (parts needed: "tape, glass run" )

Yep

Bought a 00 Max last week. It's a fine car, but at highway the passenger front door makes a whistling sound that my 93 sentra has never made

I'll agree on all counts, I'll have my car deadened with fatmat in a week, might not help much except for the audio, but it's a start. I think I'm going to try my own hand at the bad seals, we've got to be smart enough to fix at least that part. They also make a spray you can have done at some shops, called roadkill here. Almost looks like spray on bedliner for trucks, but it seems to work.

I was just complaining to the wife about exactly the same thing! The rear doors are where it is coming from. My Camaro is quieter at 75mph than the Maxima, that is pretty sad!

I'll drink to this....since I 'brown breaded' my

car the wind noise is more noticeable...gonna make a trip to the dealer this weekend to see what the 'triple seals' look like..

Given the basic design of the doors and chassis itself has not changed I cant imaging it would be too difficult to retrofit...

i think dynamat or equivalent would really help. i've noticed most of my noise is actually tire and road noise, and i think insulated under the rear seats, door panels, floor, etc. would help a lot.

when i changed my tires to a much louder tread design, i noticed a ton more noise. and it's much louder in the rain. both of those make me think it's not so much wind, as it is tires. which matting would address, at least in some regard.

I've got the stock 16's and Toyos so if it's loud for me, it's gotta suck. I'll be dropping 18s and lowering the car soon, hopefully I'll be able to come up with something soon

My car was absolutely quiet for the first few months (~9000 miles) and then I got a high-pitched whistle out of the rear right door after 80 mph on the freeway. I took it to the dealer and (after two trips), they put the simple fix on the rear right door.

The noise stopped, but since then, the noise has been increasing generally from all around. Now with 28k miles, there is noise everywhere at highway speeds. In fact the wind sometimes affects the stability of the car at highway speeds.

Checked door seals, as promised....

Went to the dealer to check the door seals on the 2k3s and they are exactly the same as my 2k1s' seals so....the notion that the new cars have something called 'triple seals' is incorrect...

On a side note...they just received their first Murano...cool vehicle!
Enormously long wheelbase for its length...nice looking SUV.

Don't worry, my "prestigious" Infiniti has the same thing. Seems to be coming from the right rear seat.

I believe none of the 5th gen's have triple seals, you have to look at a 4th gen to see. I could be mistaken though...

I've been thinking about retrofitting my max with an additional seal but am afraid to do so becuase it may channel water in places where there is not supposed to be any.

My 2002 had wind noise from the small windows at the back. I took a copy of the tsb to the dealer and they fixed it right up! My salesmen knew exactaly what I was talking about and he says they preform that TSB on all the Maximas they get in! But My 2003 has no windnoise yet so nissan must have fixed it!
