15" snow tires?

Anyone put 15" snow tires on their 2K1 SE's? Tire rack says they will fit, discount tire says no, local dealer says if I put 15" on the computer will be screwed up. I do not think my local dealer understands if the tire over-all dia. is the same the computer will be ok. I think he thought I wanted to put 15" 50 series on. I called Nissan North America. Get this - she said put on whatever original size came on the car. Ok, there are currently like 3 different 225/50r/17 models out there and she wanted me to find snow tires in that size. The main reason to go to the 15's is price! Tire rack has them for $495 shipped, and if I go to 16" it is $100 more. I know I sacrafice cornering, but I do not drive the car hard in 6" of snow and slush. So anyone actually put 15's on? The manual says they will fit.

Thanks everyone! P.S. pray for snow-ski to die!

I bought a set of (4) 16" steel wheels and (4) 225/60/16 Winterfire's for under $450 from the Tire Rack. It may cost you closer to $500, since I live in Reno, and I just go and pick them up from the dock.

15" steelies will fit no problems on a 2k1. 15" will not on a 2k2 and 2k3. The 2k2 and 2k3 have larger rotors and not all 15" steel wheels will clear them. Some 15" aluminum rims may fit on a 2k2 and 2k3.

How do you like the winterfire's? Those are the ones I am interested in. The rack does not have them listed in 16" size, just the 15.

I had to call and get the part numbers. Assuming the bolt patterns are the same for your older Maxima, here are the part numbers from my order:

26R6WF = 225/60/16 FireStone WinterFire
16NISSAN02 = 16x6.5 5-114 Steel Wheel, Black

I have the same tire/wheel combo on my Outback, which my GF drives. She used them all last Winter to make it and down Mt. Rose highway, which has snow and ice on it most of the year. They appear to be worth more then they are sold for.
