Save you money and use it for mods. Radar Detectors are worthless now-a-days.

You can be safe against Instant on Ka, K band. And half the detectors dont even register when you get nailed via Laser. No point. I had the best radar two years ago and got pulled over twice in 12hrs cause I thought this bastard was good, but no it aint.

I disagree immensely. My Passport 8500 has incredible range and accuracy. Laser is the only thing that you have to worry about because there is no defense against it, but luckily, most local law enforcement still uses KA. I get about a quarter mile range every time and it DOES safe me.

Okay, but how are you safe against Instant ON Ka?

Pretty safe. Unless you are out on a hilly road with no other traffic, and speeding. In which case, your dumbass deserves a ticket.

(I didn't mean that YOU are a dumbass. I meant anyone who is...Oh you know what I mean).

Come to Maryland, LASER is all they use now a days. I used to think that they used LASER only during the day, but that changed Halloween night. I almost got busted by a cop using LASER at 1a.m. on a dark highway. The best protection against LASER is to remove the front license plate.

I have a 7500 thats a few years old and I love it. Great investment. Just don't bet the farm on it, or any other detector, to save your but all of the time.

Bout time we got a Maryland **** to post on how I agree. Yes this is 100% true, MD cops and troopers use nothing but Laser.

I do not have a front plate since I got Alabama Tags. But still, dont see how any radar is going to help you against Laser

It has saved me a couple of times. I remember once particularly on Rt 29 North going through Columbia. A Howard County cop set my detector off, I slowed and was able to flag down the guy next to me to slow. It was pretty funny, he was very grateful. The detector doesn't have a strength ignal for LASER either, it's either nothing or "Oh My God the World is coming to an end" sound.

At like 1/4 mile I think the laser beam is a couple of feet wide and it takes the cop a fair amount of effort to get a good hit on you. While he is trying to find that sweet spot hopefully he will hit your detector. I was very surprised to see a cop doing LASER at night since the light from your headlights defuses the LASER and makes it less effective.

I bought a bel 960 for 199 at circuit city after they matched the price with sounddomain.com and it's awsome. I commute back and forth on a very heavily patrolled interstate. The next add on to it I'm going to buy is the laser and radar shawdow for 300 bucks.

Best combo!

This is 100% incorrect. Laser needs light to reflect back to the gun, which is why if you are driving in a black car at night it is very hard to get an accurate laser readout on the car. My friend has a black Z06 and cops call it 'laser deficient' when they talk to him because it is almost impossible to hit his car with laser unless they are directly in front and pointing at the headlights. If u'd like, when i get home, i will post the quote from a book i have about radar and it will prove my point.

For $450, it had better work. Hell, it had better get out of my car and slash the cop's tires too for that kind of money.

I'm in MD too, I've had a BEL 970 for around 18 months now, initially it was very usefull, but of late when going down routes like 295/BW Pkway I pass by cops and it dosen't go off, once it never went off even on those lousy stationary things that tell you how fast you are driving. I think MD cops have something really nasty up their sleeves. But the ones that are truly out there to nail your a$$ are the ones from the .. communist repub .. er I mean commonwealth of virginia.

I used to drive 295 a lot. Most of the time I see the Park Police just sitting on the side. It really ticks me off because they aren't doing anything but slowing up traffic because these idiots see a cop and go 10mph under the speed limit.

Depends what part of the country you're in. In Houston the police mostly use Ka or K band radar, and I see something like 1% of the police using laser (it's effective, but takes some effort, and it's a target-rich environment around here). My 8500 is great against radar, but I'm expecting to be had if anyone ever uses a laser on me. For instant-on, you're still usually protected if there are other speeders around, as the 8500 has the range to pick up when others get flashed. If you're by yourself out late, good luck (that's how I got my last ticket ). Still, can't complain - for every ticket I've received, the detector has gotten me out of about 20 others...and I WAS speeding.
