I'd like to hear people with 2K2's only experiences with the SES light

Hey guys, my SES light came on last night. I only have an INJEN. Car runs just fine. And gas cap is 3 clicks on. Is it the O2 sensor then? how bad is that to drive with? where are the O2 sensors on our cars?

I'd like to hear people with 2K2's experiences with the SES light comming on, like what was the problem and what did you do?

Thanks a lot
Vince

I have had this happen to me twice and both times it was my gas cap. I have not seen the SES light since. That was more than 10,000 miles ago.

Mine came on when i hit the rev limiter, the SES doesnt shut off until the service department shut it off, with the OBDII tool. The gas cap thing should fix itself in 10 or so restarts.

It was not a set amount of time but I was on the highway both times when the light shut off. I had retightened the cap prior to getting on the highway.

Mine threw a SES last Friday night while at WOT. It was accompanied by a loss of throttle (rpms at 18K - no amount of gas pedal would change it. I coasted to a crawl and to a parking area.
I have a 2K2 Auto.

I disconnected my battery for 30 mins, reconnected and still had my SES, but I had throttle control again.

The car seemed ok - good acceleration, etc. I had to drive it 3 hrs that night but then parked it for 24+ hrs. When I started it up on Sunday, no light.

Nissan said that a code still existed and it was the throttle position 2 code. The throttle position sensor TSB (that was done when I got the car) called for a pedal stop AND a washer to limit the voltage below 4.8 and they didn't put the washer in so I brought the voltage up to 4.86 and it shut down the TPS. They put the washer in and now it maxes out at 4.65 v.

The throttle is fully engaged at 3.8? anyway so no biggee.
All is well now.

Only SES I've had... Don't know if it helps you.

I installed a pop charger and i forgot to put the 02 sensor in...so the car was dying to stall, pulled over, plugged it on,, SES light..

I unplugged the battery all night, nothing..

2 weeks later, 50 restarts came so the ECU resets, and havent seen it since

knock on wood...

I've had it come on because I found out the dealer I took it to did the accelerator pedal stopper recall incorrectly. I was at a lapping day on the track, and an hour into it while coming out of a turn, the SES light came on, my car went into limp mode and accelerator would do nothing. It did nothing until my speed dropped to 20 mph, quite scary while in a track. Power cycling made the limp mode go away, but the light was still on.

When I went to the dealer closest to the track, they told me Pacific Nissan didn't do me any favors when doing the recall work. They 1st dealer was supposed to measure the voltage of something and if it fell within a certain range (mine did) they were supposed to use a different stopper but the dealer I was at didn't have the part in stock. They said, it's fine, as long as I don't floor it. Oh well, so much for lapping that day. I went back to the 1st dealer to have the work done right (it was finally).

See my post above... EXACT same thing! I guarantee they added a washer under the pedal stop to reduce the voltage when you floor it, thus keeping the Throttle Position Sensor 2 from generating more than 4.8 v.. I wonder how common this is.

If you have a polished injen pipe, I suggest you take the pipe off and see how dirty the polishing dust left behind looks like.

i wiped down the inside of the tubes until they were clean before i installed the INJEN, should be clean inside now right?

car runs just fine so i'm hoping it was just the gas cap which i tightened a day ago.

i have one of those OBDII tools so i'm gonna hook it up after i get off work see what it says.

Wow! Mine did not look like that at all! That almost looks like it was used with an over-oiled filter. Mine had a little bit of powder-like material - ran a clean rag through it.

That looks bad. Great pics though.
