I was thinking about installing one of these systems since our coil system sucks! I had my coils(all 6 supposedly, have yet to confirm) replaced recently, and she's starting miss and detonate again! I feel our spark is neither strong enough nor long enough. So, guys, what do you think? Any downsides to installing one of these systems? I think the improvement would be well worth it. However, I've never had a car that 'required' one before, so I don't know.....

I don't think I have seen anyone with a iginition/spark mod. You could be the first and tell us if it made a difference . You are going to need to do something soon if you are already having detonation issues again.

I am not sure your problem is coils as I have never heard of or had that problem. Probably also the reason you cannot find an aftermarket system.

 

the only aftermarket ignition i am aware of for our cars is the HKS one stillen and avalon sells. Its pretty damn expensive tho....

 

Why not just install a TEC-II or some other full aftermarket ECM? Lots of companies make them . . . mostly for racing applications, but with a modded engine, they can work wonders.

 

Call Jacobs and they will tell you exactly what to expect with no bull. They actually advised me that it wasn't worth the money for my Ford Taurus when I had it.
