cognitive dissonance?

From Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
--------
Main Entry: cognitive dissonance
Function: noun
Date: 1957
: psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously

--------
I'm mostly a lurker learning on the boards and not much of a leaper but I'll try a leap in here:

It seems we have dual and equally opposite held views here. While the topic of this thread implicates a sole individual as having two equally opposite views held simultaneously I kinda see the .org as a organic sole of sorts.

Anyway, I read the various threads and I've noticed a somewhat pessimistic tone setting in more recent threads and I am inquiring as to what we may think the real issues are here.

I'm gonna tell you what I think and you can tell me how right on or off I am.

I think most of us are irrated by the fact that this car is just outstanding and Nissan has chosen to make the Max and under achiever in a day age where performance parts are the norm for increasing the potential of a car and creating many over achievers. Every time we drive our Maximas, even when the CD doesn't work right, or some other quality control related issue is nagging at us, we just can't help but grin and think to ourselves how right the world is as the torque and that VQ thrust pushes us to our varied destinations...only to be snapped harshly back to reality by the fact that therein lies a big rub...there is basically NOTHING we can to do to substantially capitalize on its potential for the most part.

We are left begging and pleading for someone to hear us only to come up empty and always waiting. We are left with debates on what gains we are getting from Injen or Frankencar or pulleys. Not a knock, but just an indicator that we are not being supported broadly and with as many options as our counterparts and/or competitors.

We are beginning to hold equally opposite beliefs about the Maxima. Or so it would seem. It's is a great performer at a great price but lacks this, and lacks that. There are a few here that carry most of us on the engineering and peformance issues regarding the Maxima and for that I'm grateful. The .org is an invaluable asset for Maxima enthusiasts of all models and years.

The HP rating comes at a time when I "think" (IMHO) we feel very ignored by Nissan and the tuners for what may well be good and justifiable reasons (well at least for the tuners). However the HP issues seems to be a final insult or at least a top insult.

When we have cars like the EVO, STi, Volvo S70R, Supercharged Grand Prix, GTO, Mazda6 MPS, yes even the little SRT-4 coming to market as well as other performance sedans, those of us who have been long and short term committed Maxima and Nissan enthusiast have now seriously considered "possible" alternatives.

My Max is my third and my 5th Nissan overall. I've owned (in order): a 93 Max GXE auto, 96/97 Altima, 1990 Max SE 5spd, 1992 300ZX NA 5spd(still have) and my current 02 SE 6spd.

I just hunger for more support in the performance dept and it's a problem because everytime I get behind the wheel of my Maxima she becomes just a flawed beauty. Nothing is perfect but man, this car is so satisfying at times I can't help but wonder what could be for this car: What if we had a turbo kit, SC kit, RWD/AWD (hehe), Headers, blah blah blah. I'm sure you get my drift.

I'm done.

But wait...there's more: 255HP @ 5800 rpm and 246 TQ @ 4400 rpm. Okay, allegedly anyway. What is the optimal shift points for the most spirited driving fun. I seem to hit and miss at times. Should one go for peak HP or peak TQ.

Done. Vent off.

Woah. That was some deep stuff, man. I don't do drugs, but I almost feel obligated to smoke a bowl right now.
