Single outlet 3" exhaust with Vibrant muffler installed!!
I am not the first person to do a single outlet exhaust. One of my friends on here has one, but Ill let him chime in if he wants. I have been contemplating single exhaust for a while as described in a thread. Finally, its done.
The piping is all mandrel bent done by Orange County Muffler in Newport Beach, CA. Muffler is a flat black universal Vibrant muffler weighing in at just 11 lbs. Resonators are 2 14" Magnaflow resonators.
I had my Cattman exhaust removed and the single outlet welded in place with one flange in the middle. The flat black blends in GREAT with my black car.
The results: Upon start up, the car sounds smoother and a very pleasant tone. Smoke comes from the oil from the mandrel bent pipes burning off. As always, it takes some time for the ECU to adjust to mods like this.
After several engine cycles, I have had a chance to evaluate the performance. The initial throttle response is superb. The engine pulls REALLY strong throughout the RPM range and does not crap out at high rpms AT ALL. And the sound? NO DRONE. Thats right, no drone. Remember, if you have two noise makers (mufflers) near each other, the sound can be dissonant, which is unpleasant sound. Since there is only one noisemaker (muffler) the sound is very smooth and nice. The sound at 3500+ is intoxicating. And best of all, its quieter than the prior exhaust system.
Im going to figure out a way to handle the exhaust opening that has no muffler. Even left as is, it isnt too bad. I am extremely pleased.

Each Magnaflow weighs about 22 lbs plus the piping for one side and extra flanges is an other several pounds. So about 46 lbs minus (11lbs plus 3 pounds for pipe) so about 30 lbs of weigh savings. It would be much higher weight savings than stock setup!!!

I havent posted pics because its been to dark when I am free to take pics and I want to block off the left side exhaust opening so it looks a bit more finished. Unless u guys want pics now?
I'm glad to hear your happy with it. Mine goes in next month, but I'm taking it a step futher and having my headers modified to open up more, so I'll be running a 3" y-pipe with a 20" 3" resonator and the vibrant muffler. No cats for me. I hope to add an electric cutout.
Good Job.
and I'm glad to hear the noise was cut down, man you've got me all excited LOL
Good Job.

Nice job on the install, I to like the black muffler idea. I think a polished tip would finish off the job.
How did you make that bumper plate? Looks like it fits and matches pretty well.
On a side note, are your tires backwards?

I didnt want a huge muffler hanging down. I was looking for a subtle look, and I think I got it. Also, a bigger muffler would be quieter and it has the sound I like.
Not only does this mod look totaly awesome and stealthy! It totaly adds to the Black Theme you have going on plus gains your more UP TOP performance.
This is an A++ in terms of mods. With a higher revline and tune, plus all the reduced weight its simply going to be amazing.

What's the theory on the two resonators tacked together? Maybe it's because Magnaflow does not offer a longer model. What model# are your resonators?
I'm still getting use to the look but I like it
