Rattling at takeoff

When I hit the gas off of a light, I can hear from the front something rattling like something is losse but I cant find anything that is, as soon as I get over 20-30mph it goes away. Anyone maybe have had the same problem or know what is wrong???

good god

yes, i have this same problem.

been hearing it on and off (usually on) for months now, and i have actually gotten out of the car a few times to see if anything is loose under the hood, but have not found any. even so, i've never gotten the dealer to look at it because it doesn't always happen, and i hate wasting my time there when they say they cannot replicate the problem.

so i guess i'm not alone in this. anyone else?

ok i read up on the coils--seems like suspect. although my car is 2002, i'll bring it in next week to see what happens. funny my 2000 model never had this problem.

Check your catalytic converter. When the car is lifted (at mechanics)hit/shake the cat and you'll hear the rattles inside. When my car was up I walked back and forth inspecting every inch and found nothing. I would hit and shake all the piping until I narrowed down on the cat. I asked the mechanic to take a quick look and he agreed without hesitation.

My Brother's 1995 GLE has this problem but it's more noticeable. Try revving the engine near 1400, 1450 Rpm. That's when you hear it. I have a 2002 and I've heard it once. The sound comes from the pass. side of the car, up near the engine bay.

Same problem here. Nissan couldn't duplicate the problem, so I took the mechanic for a ride w/ me and he heard it. When they put the car back on the lift, they couldn't duplicate the sound again. They tried spinning the wheels (by putting it in Drive), reving the engine, banging the pipes....., but nothing. It only occurs when its on the road. They told me to wait until it gets worse so they can hear it better

this is news

ok i dropped off the car this morning at stevens creek.

i told them about the pinging as i rev the engine and they seemed to already know what the problem is. they asked me where i get my gas from and what kind i use.

apparently, lots of cars were brought in to them for the same engine issue, and they told me that they're suspecting the gas that are sold in the south bay; many of whom that complained got their gas in santa clara/san jose area. this MAY be true and can potentially exist in other areas as well. but this was their response.

the dealer kept my car anyway, because i needed work on the rotors. they'll still check the engine for me, so i hope to find out more once i get the car back.

so i got the car back.

the dealer encountered the rattling/pinging noise, but cannot find the cause of it other than suspecting the gas quality that is being sold. they said they have reported the noise issue to nissan headquarters.

i'm not sure if i'll ever get a follow up on this. oh well.
