WELL POS Maxima does it again

Well today I was taking my car to the dealer because my 3rd gear grides while downshifting. So i am on the onramp in 3rd gear and all of a sudden the car is not pushing me back into the seat. I thought maybe it came out of gear or sumtin but the rpm's were going down. Once it went to 0 rpm oviously the car had shut off. I tried to turn it on and it succesfully did turn on but died after 5 sec. I pulled over to the shoulder and tried a couple more times but then realized its not going to stay on. I call AAA and they came in like 5 mins. I had requested a flat bed because my car is pretty low. But the wait was 3hrs they said. So i got the regular tow truck and it wouldnt go on there cause it was too low. They called another one to see if they could do it and that was a negative on that on. SO finally they told the flat bed guy to come here first since i was on the freeway. SO they came in 10 mins got it towed to the dealer and there it sits for im thinking at least a week. Do you guys know of any way that I can get a rental from them. Do i go to the manager and ask or what. They dont have any loaners or wont pay for a rental. What a bunch of cheap a$$'s. I just need to let you all know what happened thats all.

you should also check with AAA... they sometimes pay for loaners depending on which AAA "package" you got

Try talking to the manager and see what he says......sometimes - depending on your dealer - he'll give you a demo or a rental car to take....

Hope this helps..

later...

Well guys the MAF is blown. I went to the dealer to move the car to the regular parking lot so i could come at night and change the intake on it and then tow it to another dealer. But i was able to drive the car to my house without revving the car past 2400. Tomorrow i will switch intake and then take it to another dealer on monday to have the MAF sensor changed. The dealer i went to typed up a modified intake on the papers so i cant go there and do it. Thanks for the help guys.

They should give you a loaner car. My 02 6speed is having the transmission replaced, and when I took the car in the Gave me a rental Xterra (not that great of a car, but something) I have had the Xterra now for over 2 weeks. If they didnt give you a rental then go back and request one. Good luck.

I had a grinding noise going in reverse and the 2-3 shift didnt feel right, so I took it in and told them that It needed to be replaced. They took a look at it and agreed that it needed to be fixed. There is a backorder on them so that is why they have had the car for so long.

THANKS DAVE for that overnighted MAF...I was gonna say..MAF BROKEN earlier when i first saw this thread...but i've been blaming the MAF for everyones problems on this board..i guess its true. I am using a APEXI filter..and yes my MAF did blow.

This is the history of my car with/without Frankencar and K&N:

Installed at ~10,000 kms on my 2k2 6spd;
blew MAF and removed FC at ~19,000 kms - MAF replaced under warranty;
reinstalled FC at ~22,000 kms;
currently have 43,000 kms on the car and have not had any problems.

I believe the original MAFs were faulty. FC w/K&N did not contribute to my blown MAF, IMHO.

I don't mean to be offensive here, but how can you be upset at Nissan when there is a known issue with aftermarket intakes and the MAF sensor and yet you decided to put the aftermarket intake on. It looks like you're asking for trouble if you ask me. Did you know about these problems before you put it on? If yes, then you should be forced to pay for the MAF since its really your negligence. I'm not going to have sympathy here since the money they need to spend to replace the MAF ultimately factors into how much they charge for the coming years cars.

nissan made parts that were over sensitive and with poor quality control. there have been cases of the early 2k2 maf's dying with stock intakes and nissan also changed the design so they must have know there was a problem with them.

No offense intended also..but when it happens to YOU with a STOCK intake..lets see how YOU feel. The steps ive taken..from a Oiled K&N filter...to a DRY type APex'i filter which is TOP NOTCH. Since it's non-oiled i dont see a difference with the nissan filter. Then only other difference is the Francencar tube. Now no one has really tested the Vibration theory. But ive seen/heard of many people dropping...or yanking out the MAF and having it fly 30 feet and hitting the ground. It still works to this day...even after a year. So I doubt vibration is an issue. Also all NISSANS have this problem, ive got 2 different magazines 2 different years even where it has been discused that SKYLINE GTR MAFS are SUPER sensitive to contamination along with random failures. Its obviously not a MAXIMA problem, or a Ownership problem. Its NISSANS problem. Yes Certain things can aggrevate the MAF, and it does happen. But the fact remains that NISSAN's MAF design has had problems for several years now. Sorry to rant..but thats what i feel, personally.

Is there any way to tell which MAF you have (old design or new one)? I'd like to do an intake, but don't want to find out the hard way that I have the old MAF design. Is there a build version or something stamped to it?

Ok well after a long day of waiting for the answer of dealership number 2 the answer is NO to fixing the MAF under warrenty. The reason being as it says on the reciept "vehicle has been tampered with, appears intake system was removed and reinstalled harness is mis routed" Just plain and simple just like that. This guy was the service director and he told me why it didnt look right and he told me everything and helped me out on the spot putting everything the way it should be. So i did that now im off to another dealership tomorrow morning. I hope you all that read this wish me luck tomorrow because im really gonna need it. I cant afford this maf sensor at all. I do have one other plan but this is if these dealerships all fail. Please once again wish me luck. Thanks a lot

Chris

NEWMAN-- And to the grinding they havent seeen that problem re-occur while they drive the car. Of course thats always there lame excuse

They were very willing to replace the tranny. I didnt even suggest it to them really, I told them that it may be the clutch, but they said that it was definatly the transmission. My transmission was suppose to come in yesterday, but still hasnt. Its on backorder so there must be a problem with them.
