Question on oil change....

I just called to make an oil change appt. The lady that answered the phone said that Nissan recomends changing the oil every 7500 miles. She also told me that they use a sythetic blend so to not even bother using a full synthetic. What do you guys thinks of this?

im at 6500 miles on my 2k2 and have had the oil changed twice. both times the dealer put a 3000 interval sticker on my front winshield, and both times standard nissan oil was used. im not going synthetic untill my next oil change.

7500 miles is crazy, you could go that long if you want, but it will turn out detrimental to your engine in the long run. i have no idea why she would tell you that

Read your manual

Read it for the NISSAN recommended oil change interval. That will give you piece of mind there. And only there.

As for the Blend versus Full. Many are using tons of each. Read The Oil Guru's (Bill's ) Sticky on oil analysis in the general forum.

I am personally using amsoil on regular replacement intervals including amsoil filter on my 01 Max. My wifes focus is on the extended oil change because it is a royal pain in the tushy to get the oil filter out.

The manual says 6 months/7500 miles for normal service. Since most people do not fall into "normal", go with the 3 month/3750 miles (really 4/4000 will be fine) for "severe" (i.e. stop and go) service if you are using conventional motor oil.

Syn blends are garbage and not worth the extra $$$, a scheme by marketing depts. of oil companies to fatten their profit margins.

If you plan to change your oil every 7500 miles you better use only synthetic....
7500 miles is for pure highway driving.... I don't know anybody who qualifies, most of the people drive 50/50... in this case I would change it every 4-5K miles...

7500 can be done safely with a full synthetic and a high proportion of highway driving. I would NOT do this with dino oil. Blends are waste of money. If you don't want any of the benefits from using a synthetic, just use a high dino oil like Castrol GTX. If you do want the extra benefits of a synthetic, use a high quality full synthetic like Amsoil, Redline or Mobil 1. Anything else is not cost effective, IMHO.

Yeah, I agree. One instresting thing is that it also depends on the engine, I think Maxima's engines run cleaner vs. Honda engines ( based on oil tests.

Nissan dealerships use whatever oil they get the cheapest. Generally it's Quaker State. My dealership told me NOT to use synthetic. I asked why and challenged his integrity since he could not provide any proof as to why I should not use it. I use Amsoil exclusively in my vehicles and I have for over 10 years at extended drain intervals up to 30,000 miles.

Definitely. There is a noticeable difference bewteen the different manufacturers. There is also a difference within the brands themselves sometimes. For example, some Toyota engines are much harder on oil than others.
