License plate bolts ?

Greets,

Can people who have changed their license plate bolts tell me where to find replacement bolts that are more resistive to rust? I have changed out the OEM set 2 times already and they are rusty again (me hates rust).

Yeah, I've tried the hardware store, they claim they couldn't match the thread on two of the bolts.

I just went to a local auto parts store and bought me a "generic" set of license plate bolts. My car never came with front bolts so I had to buy them right from the start. they are aluminum so they won't rust. good luck- I'm sure auto zone, checkers, pep boys, etc. would have them.

Hmm, if the hardware store couldn't help that's wierd cause I got mine from the hardware store. Have you tried a bigger one like Home Depot if there's one near you? To prevent the rust, get some stainless steel bolts. A little more pricey, but worth it.

You can pickup license plate bolt COVERS.

They are silver plastic caps, and they snap over your bolts. It looks smooth and slick.

While you are at Home Depot, get some rubber washers (neoprene??) that fit the bolt. You will need 4, 2 for each side (front/back) of the plate. This will reduce the horribly cheap sound from the plate when closing the trunk.

I solved the rear plate with some black nylon license plate fasteners from pep boys. However these aren't rugged enough for the front. A car bumped "my six" while parked and sheared the head clean off. It must have been a big bump (*****).

I will give the neoprene washer a look still.

Serin,

My solution:

Place tiny rubber feet between the car and the license plate (I use the little feet that come with cisco routers, you can get them at radio shack also). Also make sure whatever license plate frame you use fits snugly with the plate and is not a source of rattling/vibration.
