Abs Light
Abs Light
My brakes were recently replaced under warranty by my Nissan dealer but now my ABS light stays lit after you press on the just brakes once and I'm experiencing more fade than before.
This light never used to stay lit and its starting to drive me nuts. Does anyone else have this happen, is this normal? I need to know, cause I am getting very sick of it being on and I don't want to go to the dealer half cocked. For better analysis; the dealer replaced the brake pads, resurfaced the rotors and installed a "shimmy" (check spelling) kit.
If and after I get through this dilema do you think I should upgrade the brakes?

ABS light on indicates a failure in the ABS system. Have the dealer check it out.
As far as upgrading goes, definately upgrade. The rotors Nissan uses are crap. They warp constantly. Put a Stillen brake system on that car and you'll be amazed at how smooth and silky the brakes become. You should be able to pick up the kit for around 500 bucks. That includes pads and drilled rotors on all 4 corners.
I'm a 4th gen and I put the Sillen brake kit on. It's the best mod I ever did to my car. I enjoy it every time I stop.

Probably won't go for the brake kit until I get out of warranty or the issue become unbearable.
Thanks for the helpful replies.
Took Max in yesterday
Dropped the Max off yesterday evening for the ABS Light problem. Quick in and out.
They had to place me in a rental and I'm sure everyone here can relate.
The rentals never go over to well with me and last time they put me in that 2001 pinto (neon). Well this time the hooked me up with a 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT.
So far I like it better than the Max... The V8 in this thing hauls derriere no nonsense just goes.
I might be trading in the Max for one...
Nah, as nice as the engine is, I know that the Dakota probably will not stand-up to the test of time.
Oh yeah I almost forgot why I reopened this thread in the first place. The dealer has had my Max since late evening Wed. They still haven't called me so it must be bad, ok so I'm not very optimistic.
I will call them I the morning after I'm done having fun with their truck.

wow you liked the dakota more than the max? that's crazy, sure its got a v8, but the 4.7 doesnt even have the same amount of power as a 2k2 max (245 vs 255). My 2K max has more throttle response then one of those (we own a 2K durango
) so i know. We've had a lot of problems with it too and its only got 40K on it (ie bad detonation and it has a really weird pop corn sort of noise from the engine at low speed). But hey if you like the dakota, go for it i guess. As far as the brakes, mine are still pretty smooth but I've heard from people that the rotors are horrible.

I'd rather void the warranty and have brakes that perform better and last longer than stock. Sure you can keep the warranty if you leave the brakes alone but your gonna keep bringing it in for service anyway. Did that make sense?

As far as the problem with the ABS light goes, the technician said that a rear wheel brake sensor went out. He told me I get to hold on to the rental for at least one more night since he has the part pegged for overnight delivery. So I will be back in the Max soon.
Off topic: I saw a maroon 350Z (enthusiast model I think or the one 1 up from base) pull up into the parking lot when I was out doing some X-mas shopping during my lunch break. The guy barely gets out of his car and people start swarming him asking him questions and eyeing his 350. I play it
and wait for everone to disperse so that I can ask him a few ?'s. His car was an Automagic, he hardly knew much about the car, he had it for two weeks and he loved it so far. Good for him but why buy a true sports car in Mar(ew)oon, with out the 6MT, short throw shifter, w/18 rays, and brembos? He said he chose the Z over the G35C because it didn't come with auto as an option.
Wait until he finds out he just passed on the sexiest car made in the last decade for under $35k.Anyway the moral of this story is always do your homework. q
