Rattling in cabin
Rattling in cabin
Hello all, first time post, long time reader. Recently I've been hearing a rattling sound on the passenger side of my car. I emptied out the glove box, no help, check side of the door and look for anything that my be loose. I still CAN'T FIND WHERE the friggin' ratling sound is coming from, it usually occurs on soft bumps. It's driving me insane!!!!
Has anybody experienced this? I have a scheduled appt, but really don't think the Nissan tech will find it unless others have experienced the problem...
Thanks all, regards...

my dash like squeaks all the time on the passenger side, especially when its cold out. i wouldnt say its a rattle but more of a rattle squeak type thing. guess the cold makes the dash expand or something?? i dunno it is annoying tho.

me too.... i have multiple rattles on the passenger side... one of them is the glove box. I fix that problem by putting electrical tape around the latch which holds the glove box closed. but I cant figure out what is making the sound in my dash and on the passenger door. I'll look into it some more over the weekend
Colld rattle
My Max is a 2k2 SE, I travel everyday across some rather bump sections of highway here in the bronx. I was expecting rattles but nothing this soon. I try my best to go over bumps or eat holds as softly as I can.
I'll look into it closer this weekend...the rattling started at the same time cold weather rolled into the area...very peculiar...cold, contract, loosening....
I'll keep all posted...

there is the a-pillar, and a TSB for it
there is the abs connector attached to the top of the glove box, the wire just lays on top of the plastic, should be secured
and in the door, the speaker wire can rattle

Well I'm not sure if this is the same sound...but the upper inlays (The padded pieces above the arm rests) in my doors do a sort of rub-rattle-squeaking sound since I put my suspension on. 3 of my doors do this and I can get rid of the sound if I have passengers puch against these panels. Haven't had time to try and fix this... but i am sure it'll be pretty easy to take up the slack in the fit.
Hope that helps

Re: Rattling in cabin
I had a rattling issue in the cabin over bumps too.
For the longest time, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Then one day, I noticed it only happended when the cover of the cup holders was flipped to the side! Sure enough, when the cover was flipped up, there was never any rattling. Flipped down and drove along bumpy roads, the rattling returned.
Since then I try not to keep the cup holder cover open unless I absolutely have to.
Other than that, my Maxima is very tight with no other rattles. Love it.

I too had the dreaded rattle in the dash of my 2k2. My wife and I looked all over, and then EUREKA !! we found the cause in our car, it was a bit of ice rattling around by the air intake vents at the base of the window outside. We lifted the wipers and brushed all that stuff out of there and our rattle is gone. I now keep it well brushed out. For you guys in the colder, snowy climates this could also be causing some of your rattle problems.

Rattling update
I have a '03 SE and when the weather got real cold this winter (I live in the northeast and it's been a brutal winter this year), I got some very loud, annoying rattles especially on the passenger side dash. The rattles were terrible and continued for at least 2 months. Strangely though, all the rattles have now stopped! and it's still as cold as Alaska around here...
Not sure why the rattles stopped but the interior is very quiet now. I suppose the interior dash could have settled in but it's weird to me how it got better with time in this freezing weather. I wonder if the rattle will come back when the weather warms up.....????
Any comments or similar situations?

I've been driving for days with the a-pillar off.. The rattle is DEFINATELY where the dash meets the windshield.
I stuffed some cardboard in there and it only helped alittle, but was definately near the source. I'm going to have to dig even deeper to find this new rattle

ok, from the FSM.. there is a hook that holds that part of the dash. There is a bolt inside the defroster grill and one at the corner of the glove box. It would appear all that holds up that whole top right hand corner of the dash is this hook. There is no good pic of it, it only says its a hook. Its not fastener, just a loose hook, which would explain its movement and noise.
Appears to be VERY difficult to reach.

I've noticed within the last few weeks a rattle that is coming from the passenger side. Is almost sounds like it could be coming from the speaker area, but it's too hard for me to focus on the rattle and drive at the same time. I hope it still does it with a passenger, so i can have somebody else hunt for the bastard.
I've encountered 3 rattles.
1. Rattle at the vents above the radio. The center vents rattle against the radio. You can actually pull them up and see where the rattle exists.
2. Anything in the sunglass compartment rattles. Even business cards.
3. Rear deck rattles where it meets the rear window. Sprayed foam insulation between decklid and trunk to remove this one.

loose hood...
Hey all, I've notice that the rattling in the cabin seems to diminish as the cabin warms up. It might be in my head, but I'm almost sure there is a wire to the tweeter that taps against the something in the cold.
On a side note, since some shi@ spooling asshols took my HIDs I've been hearing a rattling towards the front of the car...I mentioned it to the Nissan tech during a maintainance stop and he managed to clear the rattling up...apparently the hood was loose!!!
Don't know if it was from the theft or the body shop...
FYI
To fix the problem the tech put electrical tape aroung the loop on the hood that the latch catches...
you've gotta love it when lttle shi$ is resolve so easily...

I looked throught the tsb a couple weeks ago and found the one for rattles. I just followed the directions that say to put some foam or felt between the glove box and the knee bar and that is what i did, no more rattles. I also toook out the pins for the hinges and put some foam behind the hinge.
Got another one for ya.
Check the screws that hold your glove-box to the dash.
I was going crazy with a rattle and found that the plastic loop on the bottom left side of the glove box - through which one of the screws attaches to the dash - had broken and the whole glove box was rattling.

Now if I can only find where those other 5 pings-sqeaks-ah sh@$ are coming from...
Well I havent had any rattel problems except he major recurrant one from the pass side around the glove box. I do believe its from either where the a pillar meets the dash, or I noticed that it could be the piee of plastic below the seatbelt.
The sound is definately the sound I believe it would make if the material the dash is made out of is rubbing against itself. It is more of a squeak than a rattle, has a 'sticky' quality to the sound.

My 2K2 has the same rattle in the passenger's side dash as well as an anoying rattle with the wind deflector (spring loaded) that pops up when the roof is open. I have removed everything loose in the car and the problem still exists. The dealer swears they can't hear it....and it gets more noticeable when I have my 18" wheels on.
I think the 2K2 is more flimsey than my 2K was. I love my Maxi, but with the cheap paint and the less than up to Japanese standards quality, I sometimes feel like I'm driving a fast American Sh$% box.
