Woo... Bigger Problem Then The SES Light
Woo... Bigger Problem Then The SES Light
It all began with the sevice engine soon light......
Now I am really screwed. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer. To see if the SES light returned
before I took it in to service. Now the car would not even start after that... It just would not turn over.
A guy I know that works for Ford said I might have erased the code in the cars computer that matches the key .
Is that even possible? I did what it said in the manual about turning it on for 5 secs. and then off for 5 secs (3x),
but that didn't do it. Any ideas other then get it towed to Nissan.

The codes cant be deleted like that. You can have the battery diconnected for over a week like I had and still the codes there. It is basically hardcoded and cant be deleted.
Check the fuse for the main battery which is like a 120amp.

You get the SES light indicating the ECU found something wrong.
Then you reset it right before you take it in for service?

How the he11 is Nissan supposed to read the codes from the ECU after you clear them?
Sorry your car wount start, but that was a pretty dumb idea. Suppose your car started with no SES light after you reset it. Now you bring it into Nissan and what do you tell them? My check engine light was on, I reset it and now it's ok??? Your paperwork will most likely say "Cannot duplicate customer complaint, no check engine light".
If the light comes on and you want Nissan to service it, don't reset it!

I too had a similar problem when I disconnected my battery to work on my remote start(no se light though). My car had trouble starting but it did try cranking and after ALOT of cranks it fired right up. And yes, it does have something to do with the chip in the key. It doesn't erase the code but just takes the ECU a while to recognize it. Good luck!

Now they want $500 for a new starter.
It must have cooked from tring to start all night..
Why would I need the keys re-coded anyway?
What causes it to lock up like that?
$500? it must be made of gold
or they are getting it from Stillen..

Nissan Customer Service
After I called the Nissan Customer Service and spoke to a guy named David Phillips a rep there who handled this problem wonderfully and was a great help. I explained to him that the keys needed recoding for some unexplainable reason and because of that, the starter was damaged. I also told him that they wanted $120ish to recode the keys + $500 for a starter which was busted due to a electronic malfunction with the key/computer.. He told me to give him a day to talk to the service center and his supervisors then he would call me back with an answer on weather their was something they can do to help me. Long story short Nissan will cover the starter. Thanks to David and Nissan I am not out that $500 I am really surprised they did that but very grateful..
I cant stress enough how helpful this guy Dave was.
