Daytime Running Lights Installation
Daytime Running Lights Installation
I just got a kit to add daytime running lights to my 2001 SE and was wondering if anyone here had done this, and if they had any suggestions.
Two questions after reading the instructions:
(1) are the Maxima headlights 3-wire or 2-wire,
(2) is the switching positive, negative, or double-negative?
Thanks for any help.

The kit I got is from Rally Manufacturing, number 3239. Not too complicated, just connect four wires. I just want to make sure I'm using the correct four wires, that's why I asked for help.
I don't think it dims the lights, so they will be running at full brightness, which is fine with me.
Of course, it would be nice if Nissan had equipped the Maxima with DRL.

proper DRLs as run with the factory options would be highbeams run at half voltage...
if youre running full voltage low beams, why not just leave the lights on? I mean, the SECU will turn the lights on and off with ignition.
I just left my lights on all the time before I got the 2k2 HIDs. I would leave the HIDs on too, but I think the voltage drop on cranking would kill the burners/ballasts pretty quickly.
One thing to remember that if they are a true DRL (6v on highbeams) that it will shorten your bulb life. Electricity 101: lowing voltage while maintaining resistance will raise the amperage. Even in the manual it states DRLs burn out quickly compared to your other bulbs. I think its totally worth it tho. You only have to prevent one moron from not seeing you and crunking up your car to make it worth it.

Re: Re: Daytime Running Lights Installation
Thanks for the pic, but the wire colors don't match my car. There are three wires to each headlight bulb: green, blue, and orange. Which wire should the kit be attached to?
The kit has four wires:
* black - to ground
* red - to the plus battery terminal
* blue - to fuse at fuse panel controlled by ignition (a/c, radio, wipers)
* green - to low beam wire
Questions:
* Which wire should the kit's green wire be attached to (green, blue, or orange)?
* Can I just put the kit's blue wire in the fuse box secured by one of the fuses?
* If the blue wire is connected to a power source, why is there a red wire attached to the battery?
Thanks for any help with this.
