2 K Maxi ignition coils
It's hard to say. There are a lot of 2000 Maximas that have not had any problems with ignition coil failures. Many of the ones that did have problems, had them all replaced at the same time to keep from having too many repeat customers. There doesn't seem to be any obvious pattern yet as to when/if the origianl 2K coils start to fail.

I have a 2000 Maxima SE with 54K miles. My service engine soon light kept coming on so I took it to the dealership. They said that it was my ignition coil. They went ahead & replaced all 6 of the coils to the tune of $675.00! I've heard that this IS a common problem on Maximas so I wouldn't be surprised if happens again.

[The dealership said that the coils were $70 each and there were 6 of them so that's $420.00 right there. Then of course they have to rip you off on the labor. I wish that I knew how to work on things like this myself. Unfortunately - I don't.

Mine are failing....64K miles.
I get a terrible gargling-like sound and a noticably lost of acceleration. Mine seems to be connected to the weather. When its relatively damp outside compared to the temperature, it acts up. Otherwise it performs fine.
Thats how I almost lost to a 4cyl Alero

Back in December I had been having problems with my Check Engine Soon light. My local mechanic who I have been using for years told me it was the ignition coil on cylinder two, this after doing an injector service only to find the light going on again. After the coil was replaced, the light went on soon afterwards. It was checked again with the same code. I finally said that I would bring it to a dealer if it happened again. Soon afterwards, it did. However, while on my way to the dealer, the light went off...and stayed off until this week. I explained what happened and heard all the stuff about local mechanics not having the proper dx equipment, using 3rd party parts, yada, yada, yada. His dx turned out to be the same and said that Nissan recommends replacing all 6 coils. I said to do the five originals...they would not. I too paid > $700. Given the propensity of these problems based on the posts here, it would seem that perhaps there is a defect somewhere that should be covered by Nissan. How can those of us who have suffered with this help those for whom this has not yet happened?

I'm impressed by the way VW/Audi is treating their customers by fixing the ignition coil problem free of charge. They admitted that the parts are faulty and are replacing them. This is the way Nissan should have handled the situation too.
