blip and while letting it out. If you apply constant pressure, you're slipping the clutch. Blipping allows the engine to get a little momentum to aid in speeding up the plates. You don't necessarily wanna give it constant pressure because then you're trying to get the car up to the tranny speed instead of the tranny down to the car speed.
I'd bet you that I could let the clutch out in less than 1.5 seconds on a flat surface and no gas. Once you are moving, just let it out. It'll grab. And if you haven't given any gas, you'll get very little jerking because the RPMs are so low.

From all of the posts that I've read by doing a search, this is by far the most usefull one--it has the most "bottom-line, real world" information. I also want to say thanks to everyone here, especially Adam and Brian for writing such detailed posts. Thanks fellas!
No problem guys.
Although I have to retract my bet. At lunch today I tried the starting off without gassing. Time is more like 2 seconds.
Point is, there is minimal slippage because of the closeness of the speeds. You'll see when you try it. Everything from there is just adding on to that concept.
I am eager to hear your success stories.
Also, when stopping like I was talking about to see how slow you can go, if the car starts to bog really bad, push the clutch in before it stalls.
And...
When you are starting off without gassing, if the car begins to bog, push the clutch in and let it back out. That is usually enough to keep it going.
Good luck.

The replies are no problem just stop burning it in your driveway

Go to an industrial complex at night or on the weekend and practice. I really had to think about how to explain this because it is now 2nd nature for me. When I'm driving I don't even think about what to do it just happens. To me the car is an automatic.
Also don't worry about down shifting your brakes are good enough. All down shifting does for normal driving is waste gas. Save that part of stick shift for when your ready for more aggressive driving through the twisties.
Have fun Your not being graded. No matter how hard I have tried in the past to keep the ride smooth, and to me it is, you will notice the passengers body moving out of the corner of your eye when you shift...
