Getting rid of gas smell

Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell of spilled gas in the interior of the car? I've already shampooed but the smell remains.

How much was spilled and where? Get on the seats or just the carpeting?

Just the carpeting in the car and maybe about 1/4 of a liter.

If you have not already done so, I would try using a carpet cleaning machine (Bissel type product) to get a cleaning solution in there and sucked out rather than simply dried in place.

That brings up a question...is this a fresh (i.e. still wet spill) or dried problem?

It's dried now. The shampoo was a temporary fix, but the smell is back.

Brush in lemon juice and use Febreeze on the fabric.

keep a box full of baking soda open near the area where you spilled it and also put two halves of a lemon there also overnight

Fabreeze. I did this in my old car.

Just soaked the carpet in Fabreeze and let it sit. If you have warm non-rain climate...leave the windows open a bit.
