Excessive Noise From Rear Windows?
Excessive Noise From Rear Windows?
I bought my 2k2 SE in July. It has 7k miles and now I am starting to notice a lot of noise emanating from the rear windows (seemingly from the top rear portion of the glass). In looking up the TSB's, there doesn't appear to be a known problem with the wind noise on the 2k2+. However, I saw that there is a TSB for the 2k Max. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have the same problem. My girlfriend tells me every time she rides with me that I have an air leak. At first I thought the window wasn't up all the way or the door wasn't shut completely, but that was not the problem. I would love to know how to fix it.

If you are bold and daring, take a big piece (single solid not cut up into pieces) of duct tape and tape up the rear window by the tiny 1/4 window. Place the tape on the rear most part of post and then carefully flatten the tape over the edge. Also do this for the top rail also. You will notice and be able to show how much wind noise is reduced.
BUT the idiots at Nissan cant fix it. So its pretty much only for the satifaction of being able to know how to reduce it.

given the seemingly high occurance of those nimrods scratching your windows and/or paint while doing this TSB, I would do it myself. Given the total lack of care, they hardly ever get it right anyway - just going through the motions to shut you up. The tsb can fix it if done correctly.

Yup, there is a TSB and it does not help.

There is an amended/updated TSB for 2k2/2k3 Maximas that came out in july/august '02. It basically involves replacing the entire seal that runs up the metal piece separating the 2 rear window sections. I do not have the number but it did come out in the summer. I had it done to my Max and, while it helped, the wind intrusion isn't completely gone.
The root cause of the problem is that the window is not designed to fill the space and seals properly. You'd think after 4 years of this problem and knwing the cause, Nissan would have fixed the root cause rather than addressing it with foam and seal bandaids. Another example of cost cutting over customer serice. The New Nissan. Gotta hate it.

I had that done too but still can hear the wind noise above 40+ speed. When confronted to the dealer, they have no other solution except to replace the seal again. But that didn't solved the problem. So, I went ahead and did the "foam bandaids" around the seal area, similar to the TSB posted above but cover more area around the weather strip. It did help eliminated the annoying wind leak from the driver seat. Though I do need to sit in the back to investigate it further. My next assignment will be to find interior rattle from the front passenger side. Wish me luck!

BTW, I also intermittently have the passenger side rattle; it is new with the cold weather. Can't figure out where it is coming from so if you have any luck, please let me know. Thanks...
